SShock, 29 Dec 2024I wouldn't call them horrible. They are pretty consist... morecheaper than S23 Ultra does not equal to midrange. It equals to mid tier flagship and the X200 Pro and Find X8 Pro are closer to the S24+'s price and actually cheaper in a lot of places as well. Samsung charges more for less than others. There's nothing really "Ultra" about Samsung anymore, 2 years ago, perhaps.
"Nitpicking and comparing them side by side is just the next level geek stuff that casual users don't bother with."
Exactly. Geeks used to talk about Apple being horrible back in the day and casuals always said this same thing. And now the same is said about Samsung. Showing how far they've fallen. Back till the Note20 Ultra Samsung was the overall king of cameras in android and apart from the Pixel 1/2, Samsung was generally better. Now Samsung's compared to the Oneplus 12, a top tier flagship killer and it still has a tough time in photography. This argument you're using is something anyone uses when questioned about the validity of things, it's just almost always used by people who don't have any proper justifications for things. You're paying flagship price but you're getting flagship killer quality.
Finally, what i meant by "horrible" is the fact that they have a flagship ISP and good enough hardware yet somehow manage to take terrible photos, that's all due to their modern processing. The Note20 Ultra was the last time Samsung did processing right and the rest are just mediocre at best. Look at Mrwhosetheboss's Note20Ultra vs iPhone vs Huawei video, i completely preferred the Note basically the whole time apart from a few exceptions, in photos ofc. Not much has changed since then. Goes to show Samsung's terrible stagnation.

This is why I still use my s22 ultra I replaced the original battery. It works just as good as new no performance issues whatsoever the battery lasts all day long and it looks like the latest upcoming s25 since Samsung hasn't changed the design since the s22 ultra. They're totally copying Apple and I'm not paying for that.

But all the same cameras is putting me off. Two generations with no upgrade. (I don't think new higher res UWA sensor will make any difference, like it didn't in iPhone. They need better lenses for them) Somehow I feel that S26U might not be a different case.

People is making fun of Samsung, but the S Ultra is peerless. Nothing can offer as complete package as it. Seriously, which Chinese phone offer built in stylus? None. Which of them offers a complete feature package such as Dex, 4 camera setup, top SoC, best screen, IP68, and software support? None. It's peerless. While other phones can excel in one single thing, none of them can offer an overall best phone.

Like who in their right mind would buy this? i mean if the new model is similar to the current one, you may as well buy the s24 ultra as soon as the 25 series arrives, they will be huge discounts on it.
They are the apple of the android world, complete lack of innovation or even anything remotely like trying.
Chinese companies are wiping the floor with Samsung and Apple in terms of hardware, they simply cant compete in the west because of mainstream stigma and the duopoly that Samsung and apple have, nowt like stifling competition.
Huawei were absolutely trashing both of them before the US blacklisted them with rumours and hearsay, and to this day no evidence to suggest the blacklisting was legit.

This is shaping to be the most boring Samsung release ever and it was not an easy task considering that all of the releases from the last 5 years have been boring AF. LoL

I cannot understand Sammy's copycat Apple philosophy, trying to squeeze every last drop of the same old design and hardware of previous years. All iphones iteration look alike with minimal hardware changes except the Chip and a single camera each year not surprising copycat Sammy follows like a sheep ...so sick of Sammy being so boring, I miss LLG for their innovation unlike Sammy is just stale bread.
What will it take for Sammy to wake-up and bring its A-game to the table, maybe a total fall from grace like the Z Fold 6, which was the leader and is now the laughing stock of the Foldable market as Samsung refuses yr after yr to update its pitiful Narrow Front Screen; officially the Smallest battery 4400Mah in a large foldable in the world (same battery as 4 years ago), competitors had moved on to 5700Mah being the largest and with faster charging 4400Mah. Stale old Camera sensors, thickest large Foldable among the majors 2024.
Now they are playing catchup with Honor Magic v3 (market leader), maybe same thing needs to happen here for them to lose major market share for sitting on their laurels and then play last minute catch-up like the Z Fold SE, very sad company.
No thanks Sammy I will not be upgrading my S24U and maybe even replace it with Oneplus Open 2 when it is released. Enough BS!

Something cheaper phones like midrangers always have horrible problems. They can make spectacular photos in ideal conditions, as soon as you have slightly less light they make total garbage photos unless you use a tripod. Basically any flagship phone you buy today, they make great photos across the board. Nitpicking and comparing them side by side is just the next level geek stuff that casual users don't bother with.
When buying mid range phones however, you do have to do this because they can be very hit or even more miss. For example, I love the Poco X4 GT that I bought as backup phone at one point, great display, great chipset, but camera was so inconsistent and as soon as you switched to wide it was horrible. And even main camera was so so. S23 Ultra, while costing 6x more or so, but I don't worry about photos at all.

This is the deffinition of dropping the ball, changing a great sensor (s24 ultrawide was excelent) instead of addressing that horrible 3x 10mp upscaled to 12mp sensor is insanity!
How on earth are you going to sidegrade a sensor when ignoring the much needed upgrade for the 3x zoom sensor... we are so desperate to get proper pictures at 3x... looks like im switching to xiaomi 15 ultra this year...

an "upgrade" that's not even an upgrade and more like a sidegrade. Whatever extra processing potential that might come from this move is going to be lost due to Samsung's incompetent processing or the fact that their previous UW cam was the only cam that they processed really well. So im curious to see how they continue that tradition.
Apple jumped on the high res UW cam train yet it produces similarly poor photos, if not worse photos than before. And now Samsung's doing it too. I thought Vivo and the others were being stingy with their UW cams but they're just on par with the "market leaders" so can you really blame them? lol

And instead of dropping the 10 MP 3x telephoto camera, Samsung should use a 50 MP 3x telephoto camera, so you can take good 3x to 6x pictures.

I still maintain that Samsung should drop the 3x zoom camera and return the 10x zoom camera. 200MP camera sensor has more than enough room to do 3x zoom.
