I don't favor the EU. I don't like the interference of gove in people's life. But this is a Great decision. I emailed the months ago asking to open their eyes for companies that supposedly using USB C on one end but the other end can't be removed from the charger, like in car chargers. That will build for waste & hassele. I had to ditch my newly bought external car monitor cayse it only uses it's car charger. How am I going to charge my phone!!??

And some chargers are very costly.
Whats worse manufacturers excluded many things but even giving less in the box does nto reduced the price of a device even by tiny bit.
Funny part is you call charger an E-Waste many phones comes without it and yet many mostly chinese brands giving free case in the box and a screen protector for example xiaomi, or motorola. Rather than case charger is more needed.

Chargers should definetly not be included in the box. Manufacturers could tough offer free chargers for the ones in need of one, and send them with the package when buying. But even this could be a problem, as many people, even tough they wouldn't need one, would pick to receive a charger just because is free. So at the end, a charger behind a paywall does not sound that bad to reduce ewaste. So yeah, everything has a reason, as you can see. Now, just because it looks like manufacurers use this situation to make more money, in reality they don't really, as fewer and fewer people buy them chargers, most people do not buy something they already have, for the sick of it. And the arguement that it produces even more waste, some people here keep on blabbering about, also makes no sense. Nothing produces more waste then selling let's say 3 million devices with charges in the package that are not needed or used by 85℅ of the buyers. When you understand the tones of waste produced only by a charger you'll understand why chargers should not come with every phone or portable device.

Talking about chargers, i have a nokia 18w charger sice 2019. Since then i use this charger to charge pretty much everything i can, and it works quite good, while creating 0 issues with any device.
The reason i am talking about this, should be obvious. EU is trying to reduce e-waste . It is not about the fewer people that do not owe a charger, even tough i highly doubt that in EU there are such people that do not owe a good charger, it is about those who have a lot and really do not need one, as they will still use one charger for all devices and the rest is e-waste, in this category, there are way more people then you think.

Do you even know why the EU is doing this? 😂 clearly not. It's to prevent pollution

Laptop PC c/w at least one Type C port
The majority of free public transport charging is USB. ( I personally haven't seen Type C)
There are some wild rumour circulating: that USB -Type C cables are shipped I or can be purchased; Adapters can be purchased e.g Micro USB to Type C or USB to Type C or even multi port chargers.

I think the lack of a charger is much more greed than anything else, seeing how budget devices are the only ones still coming with one and old ones can still be stored as backups, at least outside the weakest ones (>2A).
As for mandatory USB-C port is a good idea, but I wonder how they'll put one in the typical, small, dumbphone.

This is good
All share same Port is good
But the regulation the eu hasn't done yet
Or at least not as far as am aware
Which would really help with sustainable phones
Removable battery's
At least Nokia HMD global & overpriced fair phone
Do make easily repairable phones
All company's from countrys in the eu
The one thing I don't agree with which is taking advantage of the customer removable battery's from the box I hope the switch from lithium ion to much safer silicon battery happens as seen as possible
You're not doing anything a favor having buy a separate changer
Which most likely be a knock off cheapo changer from
China as people
As like I said before you're average person can't till the difference and see 90% reduced price deal and just buy

USB cables arent as big a deal compared to the absolute need for a removable battery in smartphone. Not having one contributes more to more e waste.

Obviously you didn't read sh*t, cause you're too busy with your rocket science big brain cry fest about something which doesn't exist; This EU law specifically states that most new devices 2025 onwards must use USB-C, nowhere does it state you have to give up your legacy devices, high IQ genius.

People just google what is "USB-A" if you mistake it to Micro USB
I dont think anyone care about Micro USB being sent to history and not being used on new devices. But charger should still remain with USB-A slot that is like version 3.2 that give you the fast charging speeds to what ever port is in the end of the other side of the cable that will connect to a device.
Is there even a charger brick out there that was with Micro USB port slot as the cable you connect with the charging brick like where the cable is micro usb and that micro usb will go to the hole in the charging brick that is micro usb ?
Is this really that complicated ?

Anonymous, 31 Dec 2024Yes all micro usb ports should be phased out 100%. it was a... moreThe thing is i dont want microusb ports. I am talking about USB-A port on the charging brick so you can stick in it either USB-A to Type-C or USB-A to microusb or USB-A to lightning cable. As the charging brick dont need to change from USB-A to type-c port
It should not take to be a rocket scientist to understand this from my previous posts but seems like the intelligence level of this site reader dont reach 2 digits of IQ if they can't manage to understand this simple fact and never mind how detailed i explain it they still think microusb slot be bad even tough i dont know that there are any charging bricks with microusb port slot in them.
I have few devices that have microusb like air refresher or older power banks or old phones i use like tv box. Old tablet i use to read manhwa that fits the purpose and makes no sense to buy new tablet cause of it's charging port is old while the tablet wont be ever used for different means so no point to buy new one when it works. I even have few wireless headphones that have microusb charging ports so why throw them away if they work and nothing wrong with them.
USB-A is not a microusb as that is the deem point. You get your 120W charging speed out of that USB-A and also SSD speeds of file transfer when the USB-A is 3.2 version. Even on USB 3.0 the transfer speeds are good as i have USB 3.2 storage stick of 256GB and tranfering like 100GB data on it took less then 10 minutes.
I dont know that they want to eliminate USB-A ports on devices as that is only to go with Type-c so there wont be lightning and microusb ports on devices and that is all good on my point of view. But the charging brick dont need to have only type-c ports just cause of that new regulation i dont think they even were about that in the first place

then by that logic, throw your keyboard and mouse with USB out right now, keep using PS/2 port since you like making your life less convenient

Well even i am glad for unified chargers but they should keep charger in box.
Just for example Motorola 125W charger is 80 euros in my country depends on store you buy from. Samsung fastest charger is even more costlier apple original charger too.
Rest i side with EU.
But they should understands many people comming from Micro USB or Lightning and so all manufacturers should be forced to keep chargers at least until 2030 or 10 years since this law came to world. So everybody would have the time to have some charger with their phone inside a box.
