Apple settles Siri lawsuit with a $95 million payout

03 January 2025
The company denies wrongdoing but still decides to pay a settlement.

Sort by:

Nobody pays almost 100 million Dollars if they didn't do anything wrong.
So, regardless what the settlement-statement actually says, this paying alone is already proof of wrongdoing.

So did they deny what they did was wrong, or did they deny that they did it?

But because it's apple they got away easily. Apple knows, their customers are loyal, and will put up with anything, blindly. That's the reason apple spares are expensive, the battery degrades too quick and the replacement, once again, expensive. Their customers obey apple to a T

It is amazing that people activate something like Siri and Location on their phones in the first place.
And this is NOT limited to iSheeps in the aPple sect, the same goes for the vast majority of Android users, just a different crook that steals the data.

An insult of $20 on top of the injury they caused....

Hard to image something more unscrupulous than aPple...
            ...Google perhaps?

We can choose WHO steals our data, note IF they steal them.... (and add to that NSA and similar that we can not deselect)

The payment to the users are a huge joke! Can't even buy dinner for the money.

Darth Caesium, 03 Jan 2025Which is why I'd also force them to change their ways ... moreHey Darth.
Our governments won't be able to stop Apple. Why?
Because they know if Apple leaves their country, they'll crumble (except China, which is another world altogether).
So, it's a monopoly thing; Apple is using "Apple Power" to do what they want, and nobody wants to stop them.

For a massive breach of privacy like this, they got away way way too easy. That fine should have been in hundreds of millions at least. Is this a joke ? Recording private conversations, and then also sharing them with third parties 💀 The EU Commission should look into this

Okay, they've settled this lawsuit, but there is no mention on whether they are required to stop this practice in future. Does it mean that they can continue to record conversations and sell to advertisers?

People get offended by Huawei blaming they share data with their govt. But question is what would Chinese govt achieve by having knowledge of Mr xyz of California undergoing surgery or buying groceries. Maybe they achieve benefits by sharing data with third parties like apple and Google do. But then again how can the west blame only Huawei. The pot is calling the kettle black

Missing, but relevant, detail: The law firm handling the class action lawsuit, meant to be in the billions, agreed to settle right before the trial. The law firm got one third of the money.

Makes you wonder if this was a rigged lawsuit. A type of catch and "chill" job by Apple themselves, to save them from a billions dollar bill. After all, Apple has made around 100 billion dollars on these shenanigans, in payments form Google alone. No one knows how much they've made in total, as this shady business is done offshore.

Consumers have a fundamental and inalianable right to privacy, and yet the very government that's supposed to protect them does not, and worse than that, violates their rights on a daily basis.
