It's the fastest chip they can produce until they have EUV lithography. It's probably even more expensive to produce the chip themselves. But I think it's great that people have a choice to use a different chipset than Qualcomm or MediaTek. And the chip has 5G (still don't know why GSMArena isn't getting a 5G connection from their carriers), which would not be the case if they sourced the chips from someone else.

A lower price would be enough for most people to not complain about it, but pairing a high price with ultimately subpar performance is not a winning combo.

Hart932, 06 Jan 2025You are taking a phone designed for Chinese & Asian mar... moreExactly. For example, the ChatGPT feature of new iPhone 16 series, which is one of Apple's biggest selling points, is useless in China because it was banned due to "national security" reason. (Thanks to the US. More and more countries seem to have learned such trick.) This has caused the iPhone sales in China to drop 28% comparing to the time last year.

You are taking a phone designed for Chinese & Asian market, complain of missing features designed for western use. The same happens when a Chinese buys the best western brand phone & complains that it's greatest features are useless in China & therefore not worth buying.

BEN66, 05 Jan 2025P30PRO was priced at 899EUR for the 256 GB variant. Prices have really gone up thanks to Apple/Samsung duopoly in the global flagship market and they release nearly the same looks with incremental updates.

even if you chose to live without GMS, this is still too pricey with that midrange SoC and hw limitations like lack of nfc and lack of HD and HDR video streaming

Huawei is selling their phones at absurd prices, so yeah, it IS their fault.

Anonymous, 05 Jan 2025So only US companies should have a monopoly on making chipsets?Of course not (I woudn't buy an american phone, but i'd buy a proper chanese phone), but if Huawei can't have flagship chipsets, then they shouldn't pretend to sell flagship phones (At flagship prices).

Like anyone need spy OS from google if anyone can life without it.
No google services better and the chipset is good enough for most tasks.
Problem with people is they were too much used by Google and they cant grind or understand there are a better brands and will not give em a try.

if chipset soc is your money to go. (good software can make lesser hardware better)
there're other factors that gsmarena already said. (build, camera etc.)
de-google is another thing that its better for who wanted not for everyone.
you can flash it and install any rom also not for everyone.

Really, GMS is the least of the reason to worry about. Apple is fine without GMS., and tbh, SD888 is fair for a midrange device. However, the price is just too high and does not give any advantages over a Magic V3.

Trying to manufacture flagships is their fault. With these chipsets, they should focus on mid-rangers.
