iPhone 17 Air, Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim price range and thickness leak

One of them is thicker than previously thought.

Can't wait to buy phones with worse battery life, yay.

(I think they'll keep the same battery life by using denser new generation batteries)

"Samsung allegedly hastily started developing the Galaxy S25 Slim after hearing about Apple's plans for the iPhone 17 Air."
That perfectly sums up Samsung's relationship with Apple

"Samsung allegedly hastily started developing the Galaxy S25 Slim after hearing about Apple's plans for the iPhone 17 Air." Sorry but this is BS. Whenever Apple "hears" (through spies or leaks) that competition is doing something innovative or just going a certain path, Apple "spreads" (own leaks) the rumor they were working on this just to earn the credits, and it always works because writers and youtubers just repeat the same BS narrative.
Whoever does it first sets the trend, and not the one who spreads the leaks first. As simple is it. Period.

Rkm, 04 Jan 2025Current compactish phones with SiC have 5500mah batteries (... moreA reduction from 7.5mm to 6mm thickness means a reduction of 22% of the phones volume. Also don’t forget the Xiaomi 15 and Vivo are 187-192 grams while S24 is 167-168. Putting SiC and keeping the dimensions and weight would net maybe 300 mah more. If you look at the iQOO Z9 turbo and the endurance edition, they are the same phone but the endurance has Si/C, and the improvement is 400 mAh while the weight is +1g. Si/C is not the huge breakthrough everybody thinks it is. It‘s maybe 2x-3x than what the yearly progress in Lithium Ion battery technology nets anyway, which is 2.5-5%. What’s annoying is that everyone uses this to justify making the phones even thicker and heavier to put batteries of 6500mAh and more in them. At some point the bulk is enough and then it’s time to remember that a phone is still a device held in hands and that ergonomic considerations are important as well. But with Apple/Samsung releasing thinner phones, and Oppo/Vivo releasing smaller phones (that are the size of Apple‘s standard size phone), I‘m hopeful there will be lighter+smaller base model flagships in the future. Bigger batteries are useful for keeping the devices longer, however the flagships batteries of today last 3x as long as those from 5 years ago while getting 2x the software support, so I think that’s enough and that the time has come to focus on lighter devices again.

Anonymous, 04 Jan 2025So? Would that justify completely killing smaller, thinner,... moreI totally agree and the problem is even more prevalent in the cheap smartphone world. You can't get a cheaper small phone at all nowadays. My Redmi Note 12 is almost unusable with its 6,7" screen and I don't have small hands.

potato4k, 04 Jan 2025Huh? If one can get a phone with the same battery endurance... moreBut the people here would rather keep the bulk and have even bigger batteries. Don’t know what they will do though with 3 day battery (or they are addicted to their phones and still only get 1 day with 20% left)

I've never in the past 10+ years heard a single person say "I wish my phone were less thick."
Are there really people who would want that? And why exactly? They'll just be less comfortable to use, more prone to bending, the hideous "camera islands" will protrude more or we'll get even worse lenses...

Very weird this industry nowadays. I'd rather they stay as thick or get thicker but with more useful features.
