OnePlus promises less than the competition but has a reason for that.

I hope there won't be any issues with spare parts availability for devices with longer support.

They'll make you buy a new phone one way or another.

I would like to use my phone for much longer if it lasted longer. With today's super-fast components such as processors and USF 4 memory, there will be no more performance problems.
The main problem will be the battery, which firstly is not replaceable and secondly will then no longer be available and at some point will breathe its last and then can no longer be charged sufficiently and will only last a few hours.
Fortunately for most Europeans, from 2027 all devices with a battery will have to have a battery that can be easily replaced by the end user.
Why the shitty manufacturers don't do this now is simply down to greed. Do they always want to sell new phones?

Cyberchum, 08 Jan 2025Similar to what someone said, a good number of people will ... moretry asking these S9 and S20 users, they will definitely answer that they want to upgrade soon.. If they really wants to use another 3 years then I'm wrong.

I got a lot of S20 that are already green/pink line on the marketplace, people just don't want to use them anymore. Also Note10 and 20.

6 years of support is nothing but a gimmick.

I have OP7TPRO and i want to change my battery, but OnePlus service center says they don't give batteries for this device anymore as more than 5 years have passed.

Cyberchum, 08 Jan 2025Maybe not a must, but it's a nicety. If my S21+ 5G (I ... moreYeah i agree, as a non phone gamer like me, i dont mind not having latest flagship chipset. So, any phone with longer OS upgrades is more preferable.

Im on my 5th year of using my Samsung phone, and i can see myself using this phone for another 2 years maximum. My Tab will get another 2 OneUI upgrades, so i dont have the urge to buy new phone anytime soon.

Anonymous, 08 Jan 2025S20 ? I have even seen people using older S10 or iPhone ... moreMaybe not a must, but it's a nicety. If my S21+ 5G (I bought it for about $380 last June, mind you) would get update beyond android 15, I wouldn't mind using it beyond 2026.

rizki1, 08 Jan 20254 OS and 6 security is very good, no one will use OnePlus 8... moreSimilar to what someone said, a good number of people will definitely be using Galaxy S20 series this year. I can't say for the other 2 phones, however. This past year, I actually saw people still using Note 9 and S9.

Sorry, I'd chose being on the latest android version and have access to any feature it comes with OR the manufacturer added to its skin than stay on an older android version and miss those features.

4 years OS upgrades is fine, but 5 is enough.

Making 7 years OS upgrades can be led to motherboard issues and software laggy.

Atleast they should optimize about software upgrades.

Eh, if it were $600 - 700, sure. But they're charging $1000 for this, alongside 3rd rate components from BoE. Doesn't seem to worth it anymore when you're charging the same prices as Samsung and Apple.

                        What a deal breaker.

Any flagship phone with fewer than 7 OS upgrades must be priced under 500USD.

rizki1, 08 Jan 20254 OS and 6 security is very good, no one will use OnePlus 8... moreS20 ?

I have even seen people using older S10 or iPhone 11/Xs.

But zero people that still use chinese phone from 2019.

So 7 OS upgrades is a must in 2025.

rizki1, 08 Jan 20254 OS and 6 security is very good, no one will use OnePlus 8... moreWell, I'm still using OnePlus7Pro in 2025. I really love this phone and been procrastinating upgrading it because it's just perfect for my usage. Just wanted to know what the brand is up to..My next phone may be a iPhone 16 pro though

4 OS and 6 security is very good, no one will use OnePlus 8, S20 and Mi 10 anymore in 2025, even if they still exist, they will definitely be planning to upgrade or maybe move to the mid range, who here is still using these phones, are you planning another 3 years of use? I'm sure not.

Android update timeline has changed so 4 years = 6 to 8 updates instead of 4.

This is the only lacking factor of one plus rest of it is just as good as a flagship competitor 🗿💀
