I work in IT, and for testing purposes, I use these older devices:
Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite - Android 13, Exynos 9810, 6GB RAM
Samsung Galaxy S9 - Android 10, Exynos 9810, 4GB RAM
Sony Xperia XZ2 - Android 10, Snapdragon 845, 4GB RAM
The S9 is much faster than the Note10 Lite, even though it has less RAM and the same chipset.
When compared to these two, the XZ2 is absolutely flying.

Does anyone still care about OS updates? When was the last time a new Android version brought anything worthwhile? 8, 9 maybe?
Someone mentioned banking apps... My bank's app apparently requires Android 8, my wife's 7, so with my 1 III on Android 13 I'm probably good for 5 more years, 1 V with 15 the next 7 or so.
This tragedy definitely does very little to motivate me to buy a phone from another company so I can have a completely useless higher number in the System info and along with that a hole in the middle of my screen, no SD slot, no 3,5 mm jack, no proper stereo speakers, horrible under-screen fingerprint sensor...

This is especially disappointing in the context of a 4 figure phone. Like yes it'll still run fine and you'll still get security updates, but when Samsung are promising 7 and iPhones from 2017 are still getting the latest OS without incident it's just disappointing. At this price point there should be no less than 5 OS upgrades, which should be a bit easier since there hasn't been that many major changes in Android lately.

Anonymous, 10 Jan 2025You can still use it for at least 2 more years on Android 1... moreOf course it will still work fine, but 2 years support for a flagship phone isn't good enough. It shows lack of care/commitment. Everyone else has stepped up.

You can still use it for at least 2 more years on Android 15. May even be better not having it being slowed down by newer Android updates. I really don't see what the problem is. It's not like apps will suddenly stop working on older Android versions.

This does not necessarily make the phone useless in a couple of years.I can assure you that even in 2 years time, this phone will still be able to run all apps and games on the Play store for example, currently a 3 yr old Android 12 software is enough to run any app or game out there

the benefits of a clean android experience don't seem to be that much as far as Sony's concerned. Taking this long for updates when the skin is thinner than a fashion model is just.... cringe.
