fren, 10 Jan 2025looks like samsung is desperately trying to cut cost - rumo... moreThe M14 screen doesn't have the superior antiglare of the S24U. AMOLED version numbers aren't linear improvements. So, obviously the S25U will improve on the S24U display, instead of downgrading to what they sell to Apple and China.

SShock, 10 Jan 2025All the Ai features on my S23 Ultra are entirely worthless ... moreme too. the only AI feature I use is circle to search among so many AI features. the rest try once & never use again

Anonymous, 10 Jan 2025How will it work then? The stylus itself can work without wireless, there are various methods on how certain touch displays work with stylus. There are active styluses that may use speciallized tech to add additional features like tilt, pressure and hover detection some displays have embedded sensors so the stylus can be thinner and then there are passive/capacitive styluses that work essentially the same way your finger touch is recognised, by tiny electric disturbances on the touch digitizer. I don't remember the exact protocol Samsung uses but TLDR a stylus does not necessarily need electric components to work, you can buy cheap capacitive styluses online for maybe $4-5 or even less if you're in China that look like a rubber/silicone dome at the end of a pen. But not all displays work with then, especially those that have specific stylus input like iPads. I have one and it work on my Android but doesn't work on an iPhone, not exactly sure why but iPhones don't even work with Apple pencil as those are active styluses and iPhones don't have the same digitizer as iPads.

Anyway, it's just that wireless features won't work anymore like remote shutter and such. Stylus itself will do basic function.

walkman8, 10 Jan 2025It's not cost cutting in this instance, it's just... moreIt's so clear that you didn't understand my point :)

Why are you diverting the your main point to somewhere else like the specs of the phone comparing to the others'?

Did you read my another reply right above the reply I've given you?

Your point was the space that pen takes. I wrote you that ultra series is larger on the width. If you put the phone next to another brand's flagship with the same height, you can clearly see the display is wider. That justifies the space of that pen.

If they were both same with the width then your argument would correct that removing pen will give extra space.

It's so clear that little size is ENORMOUS. When brands are doing sandwich styled MBs to squeeze things inside the phone, of course it's important. But again. They don't try to squeeze the pen into the same sized phone.

I can even easily disprove you by putting s24 ultra model next to s24+ :)

Here I took dimensions from Gsmarena search engine.

If they remove that pen, they'll just make the phone narrower. Are you really that naive to think that they'll fill that space with a new feature? :D

Adding in Snapdragon Sound, a feature of the Qualcomm chipset, would be a good move. Sadly, about as likely as reintroducing a micro SD card slot or a headphone jack.

Let's hope Bluetooth is being replaced with UWB. Otherwise this is prime pay more for less deal.

Sucks to be loyal Samsung fan. Never owned a Samsung device so I probably will never miss these features but feel bad for those who do.

Great reminder, judge the product, not the brand. They will never return or reciprocate your feelings.

There's no guarantee that this is true until Samsung actually announces the phone. Plus how reliable is this leaker?

                  How will it work then?

You'd think that such flagship phones would be packed with headphone jack with high end DAC, support all the BT codecs including latest HiDef ones, IR blaster, have pencil with BT to have all the options and keep on adding new ones every year. Instead only thing they add every year is extra cost and they keep taking away the features. Its idiotic.

                      What's wrong with Samsung?

The area you've mentioned is ENORMOUS for smartphone dimensions.
Whether you like to admit yourself that or not, but Note and S Ultra have always been one step behind their Android flagship competitors solely due to storing the s pen.

For instance, Note 20 Ultra was slumming with 4500 mAh at the time when Androids had 5000 mah as standard. 60 w+ wired charging was also normal (vs. meager 25 w with Note). Not to mention inferior speakers, haptics and vibration. All important phone components.
S25 Ultra will have 5000 mAh battery, almost 5 y.o. camera hardware when competitors offer 5500-6000 mAh batteries with 60+ wired AND wireless charging, larger vapor chamber surface, superior haptics, vibration and camera sensors.
                        All these components require space.
R&D in smartphones have been sleeping for years, everything's put to halt except for chip development and AI.

A hike in price but less features. Good job, Samsung!👍

LoLoL, 10 Jan 2025I'm using a lot. And do not understand why Samsung rem... moreOh come on. I was the user of last Note in the series.

They've removed much more if you focus on the previous series.

Some might argue about the improvement on the cameras considering the additional censors. I understand that.

But thinking from a perspective that the particular model should always put improvements over the elder generations,Samsung seems to be suffering a lot.

I'd count some that gets my attention:
                            -headphones jack is gone
                            -expandable storage is gone
                            -heart monitor is gone

Most of the specs are just repetitive. They just changed camera modules one by one by keeping the same 200mp main modules over years.

Some might argue that it's not only Scamsung doing this. I agree. It's just the subject is about this particular brand!

I used to be a happy user but it was getting my critics that Samsung was mocking Apple first amd doing exactly the same change later. Now, I'm a happy Vivo user.

walkman8, 10 Jan 2025Sooner or later they'll have to ditch the s-pen slot a... moreThe pen doesn't take any place from those components you have mentioned.

Ultra series and previously known as Note series have been always bigger on the width meaning the screen size size was bigger which gives it a more rectangular shape.

The pen takes approximately 60% of the height of the portion it takes on the width. It gives more freedom in the remaining part for the other modules.

Put all these aside, thank you standing on the side of the producer giving them more reason to remove more features. With customers like this(okay with whatever the brand does and even justifies it with unreasonable arguments), I'm sure brands like Samsung really enjoy all the feature removals to save money. :)

Sooner or later they'll have to ditch the s-pen slot altogether. It's taking up so much space that could have been used for better cameras, speakers, vibration motor, battery size, vapor chamber size etc.

But I do not condone this. If s25u is the last Ultra with an S-Pen, at least go all out with it. Hell, give an integrated mic on the pen for interview purposes as a nice one last touch to the legendary S-Pen.

So next year will scrap it for good and day: s25u users didn't use so much s pen so we discarded it. But people will not use because you scraped those functions. If just a mean to justify your action

The S-pen that worked with the S21 Ultra was the same. That one has no Bluetooth, nor does need a charge. I have a pair (S21U + Pen), so I can tell.
