I heard rumors that it would have 2 screens like the DS or 3DS, but I guess that wont be a think, unless Nintendo is making a separate add-on for dual screen.

Feem, 16 Jan 2025There’s a reason Nintendo barely sells outside of North Ame... moreWhat are you talking about? The switch particularly has sold very well in Europe, and same with the DS, 3DS and Wii before it. The switch has also done pretty well in SE and East Asia outside of Japan. Even if the majority is from Japan and NA, the sheer amount of units sold mean the switch has done very well in Europe, Oceania, Middle East, Latin America and SE Asia. The switch "just" doing well in Japan and US/Canada would not have made it the success it has been. Part of that was down to it doing better than expected in basically all the market it was sold in

Its not US vs Rest of World, it's Japan vs Rest of World. I think you might have got confused with Mega Drive/Genesis where it was a ROW (Asia, Europe, Latin American, Oceania etc) vs US & Canada split .
Oh and the Master System was the predecessor to the Mega Drive/Genesis in Europe and Brasil. I appreciate what you said but I just had to something small to add. Thank you :)

I woke up 7:50 AM and the first thing I did was use the YouTube app on my Galaxy S23 to check out this Switch 2 trailer. Watching it hours ago, the trailer is pretty much what most of us expected it would be. Show more of the console. Then some footage of Mario Kart 9.
The better trailer was for the first Switch back in October 20, 2016. Had more of an OMG moment because nobody saw Joy-Cons like that. Switch 2 feels more of the same but with prettier graphics. No different than going from PS4 to PS5. Being weird is what makes Nintendo great. Switch 2 feels “normal” coming from them.

My prediction of the Switch 2 being slightly more powerful than the Deck became true as the teraflops were leaked 2 days ago and it’s 1.7 TFLOPS if in handheld mode and 3.1 TFLOPS if docked. Deck is only at 1.6 TFLOPS no matter what. Switch 2 will also have DLSS and ray tracing, something I believe Deck can’t do natively. But Deck is more of an open platform thanks to Linux that you don’t need to jailbreak/mod it to run emulators.
I will still get the Switch 2 but it’s not a Day 1 purchase. I know some will get it on launch day and some will buy it to scalp it. We will see Switch 2 sell for double or triple if stock runs out quick. That’s how it goes that first year especially during the Holidays. I will wait for the smallest and cheapest model possible. The Switch 2 Lite could be released by late 2027 if the Switch Lite was released in late 2019.
I don’t really need to “dock” the Switch 2. I rarely play games on my TV. That’s why I don’t need the Switch 2 to “switch”. It doesn’t need to be a hybrid to me. I only need it in handheld mode at all times. And the multimedia capabilities sucks on the OG Switch anyway. My PS4 slim handles that better with apps like Pluto TV and Tubi. I only use the YouTube app on my Switch Lite if I’m not gaming on it. I don’t have a Hulu account.
Give me a Switch 2 Lite even with the shittiest battery life being it will likely be the thinnest model with the smallest battery and I will be happy. I need a real d-pad for 2D gaming. I do like how Nintendo is going for a default darker color. I had the white Switch OLED and that thing started to yellow at the back of the Joy-Cons. I want black/dark consoles. Not ones that are white that turn yellowish over time like the whitish Saturn and Dreamcast did.
Every early model will usually have issues. You wait 1-2 years and you get a newer model that gets more refined like going from LCDeck (Feb 2022) to OLED (Nov 2023). And if they don’t have issues, there’s not much of a library to play yet. The rumored launch day titles for the Switch 2 were games released from 5 to 7 years ago. FF7 Remake from 2020. Red Dead Redemption 2 from 2018. Games you can already play on any PC handheld right now. Playing older games to wait for the newer stuff coming from Nintendo.
I did enjoy hearing the news that the Switch 2 will get FF7 Rebirth next year. This means my Steam Deck should be able to play Rebirth as the game is being optimized for weaker hardware like the Deck and Switch 2 which are only on par to a base PS4 from 12 years ago. And Switch 2 will also get the remake to MGS3 which means Steam Deck should get it too. Again, 1.6 TFLOPS vs. 1.7 TFLOPS. The base PS4 was at 1.84 TFLOPS and still got a port for Elden Ring.
I guess Nintendo is finally building better relationships with third-party developers. Or perhaps third-party developers wants their games on as many platforms as possible and don’t care if Nintendo is a ninny. Ninnytendo. The wildcard for me is that Legion Go S with SteamOS and Z1 Extreme at $599. If you want a Steam Deck on par to a ROG Ally X and Legion Go in raw power while still having the efficiency of SteamOS, that $600 SteamOS handheld is your best bet.
If that’s Mario Kart 9, it doesn’t look that much different in graphics compared to MK8. Going from Switch 1 to Switch 2 graphics is like going from PS3 to PS4 graphics. I don’t even know how Nintendo will ever top Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? MK8 originally came out for the Wii U in 2014 and got a DLC (Booster Course Pass) nearly a decade later. That’s honestly the most perfect Mario Kart game I’ve ever played. The game is still cheap with the brutal rubberbanding and will punish frontrunners but I can’t find many faults to it. It’s the GOAT Mario Kart game surpassing Double Dash!! and MKWii.
*Sony*
Where the hell is Sony in all this? PS Portal is not going to cut it. We need OFFLINE gameplay. Not everyone has fast mobile data speeds. I believe Sony is watching this and thinking, let’s hurry up with this PlayStation 5 Portable. Sony will have specs that will blow any Nintendo handheld out of the water like it did with the PSP and Vita. Yet, those two still failed against the weaker DS and 3DS. Not that the PSP was a flop. It still sold 80M, more than Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 sold combined. But DS still sold double.
Back in 2011-2012, people were saying how Sony doesn’t know how to make handhelds like Nintendo does. Many of the console-like experiences would not work well on a handheld. People on the go have shorter attention spans. Nintendo makes better games that deals with shorter bursts. Well, the Switch in 2017 and Steam Deck in 2022 shattered that perception. We don’t mind console-like experiences on a handheld.
At the time when the Vita was released in 2011-2012, we didn’t have the technology to emulate what the current home consoles could do. Vita got a portable version of Uncharted which meant it will be a watered down version with a lower budget. And while Golden Abyss was still enjoyable for me, it definitely did not have the production values of Uncharted 2 or 3 on the PS3. But ever since PC handhelds, Switch, and emulators on our smartphones, we don’t mind playing AAA titles on the go.
That’s why I believe this is the right time that Sony should release another dedicated handheld. Sony was a little too far ahead with their ambitions back in 2004 and 2011 wanting to offer a console-like experience with their PSP and Vita. We didn’t have that capability of a PS3/Xbox 360 on the go until PC handhelds started releasing around 2015 from Chinese OEMs. Then Switch made the “console-like experience” on the go mainstream.
Supposedly, this Sony handheld is still “years away.” Release it next year and I bet it will beat every PC handheld out there in sales including the Steam Deck. It will have specs greater than the current ROG Ally X and Legion Go. People are going crazy over a Nintendo handheld with PS4 specs. Your turn, Sony. Time to blow them all away. It took 20 years for Sony’s ambitions to come into fruition.

Feels more like “Mii 2” as in me too, let’s finally be on par to the most popular PC handheld out there. Let’s be as powerful as a PS4 and Steam Deck at under 2 TFLOPS. Nintendo was about breaking trends. Now they’re about following them like prettier and prettier graphics which adds nothing to gameplay.
If it becomes an arms race with specs, Nintendo is usually behind a generation. The Legion Go 2 is going to offer the Z2 Extreme which is more powerful than the Z1 Extreme found on the Ally X and LG1. The Z1E has 8.6 TFLOPS, only 2 less than the base PlayStation 5. Steam Deck was already getting left behind by Asus and Lenovo by 2023.
I’m excited to hear FF7 Rebirth coming to the Switch 2 next year as well as the MGS3 remake as Snake Eater is most gamers’ favorite MGS game ever. But I’m also feeling a bit confused. See, I already 100% FF7 Remake for Steam. Nowadays, it’s not really about the hardware but which ecosystem are you invested to more? Which one do you prefer using?
I have a Nintendo Online account, a PSN account, and a Steam account. Don’t have one for Xbox because I hate Microsoft. I don’t want my achievements to be scattered across 3 different online accounts. I may end up sticking with Valve since they offer the best sales as I don’t want to keep rebuying the same games for different platforms.
Good luck paying $70 upwards on Nintendo’s first-party games for your Switch 2 which rarely drops in price. I still don’t own Super Mario Wonder because it’s still too expensive. While I already have more games on my Steam Deck than Switch Lite thanks to many half-decade to decade old AAA games costing under $20.

Earlier leak of switch soc at 2.1Ghz scored 5500 in GB multicore while approximately using 9W. We are talking sd 8 gen 2 level of perfomance and efficient which is really impressive consider older node/core.
That plus Console has custom os which take advantage of hardware compare to Mainstream os, i can't see any last gen hardware which can match switch 2.

The Switch 2 looks just as boring as I thought it would look and will probably start at $500 or more. My only complaint is that TV mode is only enjoyable if you buy a Switch Pro controller. For the price, they could have included it in the box and even removed the ability for the Joy Cons to detach from the console, eliminating the useless straps as well.
