There's a Snapdragon 8 Elite version with just seven CPU cores now

Binning, probably.

Why they doing this? After all these years they shy and being coy to add 3 GHz big cores in their chipsets. Now they go full 4+ GHz for big cores and use 3.5 GHz for performance cores. Qualcomm makes all their older chipsets especially the mid-range ones looks like a joke.

MeSamie, 20 Jan 2025Maybe, this could be SD 8s+ Elite chipset, which will be us... moreS and + in the same chip?

What the position of this varient sd 8 elite 7core according to price and classification.
Is it more premium than sd 8 gen 3 or sd 8s gen 3?

Could be called Snapdragon 8 Elite Lite
        or Snapdragon 8 E(lite)

Maybe, this could be SD 8s+ Elite chipset, which will be use by Poco for its new F7 !!!

I'm just confused with Snapdragon naming scheme. So will they just every chips they release with the name "Elite" on it? Just makes nonsense as their X Elite has families: XElite, XPro and XPlus for the tiers.

So will there be like SD8 Elite, 8s Elite, 8Pro and 8Plus in the future? lol

Come on, I can't believe nobody posted this yet:

              Snapdragon 8 Delete

Lovelandmark, 18 Jan 2025Should've been marketed the as 8s Elite, else it'... moreThe name is confusing intentionally? for marketing purposes.*** If it sticks you possibly won't find out if its 7 core or 8 core small print or Gsmarena review etc

                This story is linked to
New Snapdragon 8s Elite detailed, seen powering the iQOO Z10 Turbo Pro
                https://www.gsmarena.com/new_snapdragon_8s_elite_detailed_seen_powering_the_iqoo_z10_turbo_pro-news-66074.php. I wrote

"Note that the 8s Elite does not use the Oryon cores that were developed in-house by Qualcomm but still features the ARM-designed cores that were used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 generation. However, there is a boost to CPU clock speed and one more middle core (at the cost of one small core). Also, the Adreno 825 GPU is from the same generation as the Elite chip (and not a 700 series GPU)"

The name cannot be 8s Elite if it is NOT using Custom Oryon cortices
Assuming the clock speed is correct AND Oryon yes
If on the other hand stock Arm cortices then NO. The tipster have gotten the name wrong.

Just like we were in 2023 and after Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 other Qualcomm SoC were being released not named 8s Gen 3

                Oryon equals 8s Elite YES
                Arm stock cortices. NO"

Back to today I am now convinced that whatever is in the IQOO Z10 Turbo Pro ISN'T / ZERO CHANCE of being named 8s Elite
                Proof Qualcomm pdf 1ST Paragraph

Powerhouse Qualcomm Oryon™ CPU defines a new mobile era
Welcome to the next generation of smartphones, where extraordinary is the standard. We’ve masterfully engineered our BRAND-NEW, 2nd GENERATION QUALCOMM ORYON CPU to deliver power, speed, and efficiency.

Semantics ...This 7 core SM8750-3-AB would have been the or should have been the "8s Elite"

BUT.... **** The only reason imo for there being no new name, is that in this case the cortices clockspeed HASN'T been reduced as in earlier cases S or Plus variant etc. if Qualcomm is applying that logic then the name should change as it did when configurations changed

If there are now TWO Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 std and (IQOO Z 10 Turbo Pro )interested to see how much faster the 7 core is.

So, from dual-core, quadcore, octacore, we even got DecaCore at that time... no we goin' back to HeptaCore (7)?

I think we're going back to the roots...

                    This actually great!

Apps in background that Google says it monitors for consumption but we really aren't sure. Ads on browsers that suck processing power. Wi fi searching for background networks etc.

Should've been marketed the as 8s Elite, else it's just deceptive marketing.

hopefully it's a cutdown version for cheaper phones or something

avoiding overheating can be achieved by slowing down the core
This certainly a product defect, and Qualcomm made this product to save it being wasted

Maybe the efficient cores are obsolete because they are too slow for new phones. More and more tasks are running in the background even when you are not using your phone and it's "just idling". Did you guys ever notice how huge the background idle battery drain is nowadays when your phone is just lying around with all networks off? It's a few percentages a day. I remember the days with my galaxy s2 when it just was around 1% a day!
