I highly doubt 4 more gigs of ram would make any difference, even in the most demanding scenarios

sdkk, 23 Jan 2025You don't need it at the moment, but do you know in 1-... moreGraph consumer use/needs alongside hardware improvements, over time. Anything can happen; I feel pretty safe betting that most people will be doing the same web browsing, GPS, emailing/texting, streaming, social media, etc. in 2030. I just checked, & I'm using 8gb - 2gb is in not recently used apps. Another 1gb in apps that should've been off. So about 5gb.

I'm not concerned about RAM; but after 5 years from the 12gb N10, the flagship should probably come with 16gb. Maybe part of that is the stagnation or corruption in chip manufacturing

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2025Why only in certain regions that's kinda pointlessSamsung (and back in the day LG to an even greater extent) always gatekeeped features by region. Not only were storage/memory SKUs frequently region-exclusive, but usually only the Asian models would get dual-SIM support, this being before the days of eSIM. As I mentioned, LG took this a step further, locking wireless charging to be a US-exclusive feature. And it course, Samsung still blocks the US models from bootloader unlocking, even if you've bought a carrier unlocked device in full.

These different versions for different countries are just annoying. Vivo X200 Pro global will come with only 5200 mAh battery, similar like Honor Magic 7 Pro. Why can't they do everything the same, for all regions same setup.

Not only flagships, 16GB of RAM has been available in some mid-range models for at least 3 years.

But they've also had faster wired and wireless charging for about the same amount of time, and "Samsung still outsells them" globally. So maybe specs don't make a huge difference in most people's purchasing decisions?

                    This website has become disgusting...

DarlingYext, 23 Jan 2025Why not everywhere? It would obviously cost more than the 1... moreThey should've just done what Google did with their Pro phone — only offer 16GB of RAM. Samsung at this point has such high profit margins from their stagnant spec upgrades that they wouldn't have to raise prices at all if they faced meaningful pressure from competitors. At some point they're going to be so behind everyone else that they'll either fail, or someone else will dominate the market.

Minu, 23 Jan 2025Meanwhile Chinese brands with 24GB RAM:tbf I assume I'll never use more than 8gb- unless AI actually improves in the lifetime of the phone, and ig runs on phone RAM? I don't really mind selling/buying a new one if that happens.

Or maybe some emulator comes out for 64/128bit consoles? Idk what current phones can emulate & whether the limit is software/hardware.

I'd rather they put that money into a next-gen camera.

But I agree with you, there should be a continuous strive for progress

Why not everywhere? It would obviously cost more than the 12GB option, but what does that matter when people would buy it anyways..
