Cpt.Power, 29 Jan 2025Bro good joke. I am proud user of Motorola edge 40 pro wi... moreMy Chinese phone has been over 40C ° fast charging so many times and after 4 years the battery is still good at 82℅ my old Samsung had a garbage battery even after a year, S9+ was not a good phone for 900 euros. Now that Samsungs and Apples don't come with even a charger to begin with, we can pretend the older folk would just buy a their samsung device and use the cable with their old wall charger and charge up their devices in 4 hours. No case, no charger, no plastic screen protector to get you started and a massive price tag. No thanks.

Kloot, 29 Jan 2025If Samsung s25 gets you through a 17 hour day, with OneUI 7... moreSamsung's battery will degrade within 2 years and then 100 bucks to change it, Honor can go on 5 years and still be higher than 80℅. Honor is a lot cheaper , longer battery life and charges a lot faster. Samsung only has their really good display and SD8 elite OC and that's where the pros end.

xPandamon, 29 Jan 2025Honor can keep teasing as much as they want. They are still... moreThe majority of users are not tech-minded, do not care about hardware on a spec sheet or deeper level, and treat mobile phones as appliances.
If we're going to use your analogy, McDonald's is gourmet food simply because they move a lot of units. Everybody loves them, so they must be the best, right? Wrong. For the average consumer, it's not about being the best. It's about being good enough - and they use phone brands to determine the likelihood of that happening, even though it is a flawed.
Brands that are in this lucky position to have loyalty capitalize on and use it as an excuse to increase profit margins by only doing iterative designs, if that. They no longer are innovative. This should make them not the first choice for people, but again, the average person is not a techie. They are not adventurous and they do not care about spec sheets.
Why innovate when you know that you have the strength of the average consumer behind you? You will move units regardless.

sdkk, 29 Jan 2025Don't you think it would be better if they didn't... moreBetter? Yes. We'll get there. Is someone doing that right now? Or even close?
The claims that somehow Samsung is getting demolished in this area is extreme was my main point. Post after post "5000mha in 2025?!?". The already a year older s24u was rated at 13:49 hours of active use, the vivo x200 pro at 15:09 with a silicon carbide battery rated 1000mha higher battery to achieve that hour-twenty longer. It isn't that impressive. Neither is the difference in charging speed. 90w vivo charged e to f in 49 minutes, 45w Samsung in 65. So all this whinging over 1000mha [1:20 run time] and 14 minutes of charging. And that's the s24. We don't have the s25 ratings yet.
I can see Samsung taking the Apple route: let the ones trying to catch up beta-test sc batteries and ultra-fast charging. If it works, add it, if it doesn't, you didn't harm your reputation. Boring and safe. Those changes for 1 hour run time and 11 minutes of charge time don't seem worth it but what do I know.
You're correct, what you described would be pretty neat, but the sad fact is we are several years removed from big leaps in phone tech... at least for now.

Kloot, 29 Jan 2025If Samsung s25 gets you through a 17 hour day, with OneUI 7... moreDon't you think it would be better if they didn't imitate Apple, but instead provided you with a high-capacity battery with fast charging + their incredible optimization and only had to charge your phone every 2-3 days about 40 minutes?

If Samsung s25 gets you through a 17 hour day, with OneUI 7 providing battery optimization for a full day's use, does it matter how long it takes the battery to charge while you're sleeping? Deciding Samsung isn't 'innovating' because they aren't using hardware to do it like you want them to, and basing your decision solely on mha and watts is not sound.
Samsung catches hell [and rightly so] for chasing Apple, but Apple uses a comparatively small battery but has great life; if Samsung is doing this, I don't see the problem.

S25U is definitely a very, very good device. But when it comes to value for money, I'd prefer the Magic7 Pro.
Afterall, you buy what you prefer.

Both phones have their merits, but it seems that Honor may be seeking additional publicity, perhaps due to lower-than-expected sales in markets where their phone was recently released. The Honor phone also has some drawbacks when compared to its competitor, such as a smaller screen size, lower pixel density, and being heavier and thicker. Additionally, it has a lower resolution camera at 50MP compared to 200MP, lacks 8K video capability, and does not come with a stylus.
