Nvidia rolls out GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080, and they are already sold out

It's all a big fat lie, few numbers were made and they did a huge thing out of it, to show as if it's sold out. Truth is, the cards come with very little upgrade at higher price, they control the market with low stocks now.

1. An extremely small number of chips were delivered. So they didn't sell out, but there were extremely few of them. Some stores had less 5090 (30-50% or more) than 4090.
2. Stores including Nvidia did nothing about scalpers. BOTS bought the cards before the start of sales, before 14/15 in Europe time. There were no cards because the use scripts to bought the cards, stores should have secured that. One card per user was a lie.
3. Nvidia and others prefer to sell chips for AI instead of gpu pc cards, Nvidia didn't produce a large number of chips because it prefers to produce those units for AI. But why announce the cards and the premiere if they didn't say that the production lines are busy with something else?

Anonymous, 01 Feb 2025Butcoin hasn't been mined by gpus since 2013. You are ... more...which is exactly what I was saying to pl2rts, but thanks for the details on Eth.
Mining is not a huge use case today.
Even if a card is launched, its as good as not being launched but privately distributed to some selected youtubers and mediapersons, on a paid basis. Scalpers will take the chance to make money.
There's an artificial demand exploitation by reducing supply. Unless you're not ready with sufficient units, a company shouldn't launch a card.

Hi, 31 Jan 2025it's the people purchasers stupid 🤷♂️Yeah, buying same Samsung phones every year and buying same Nvidia cards every 2 year, indeed humanity is doomed 🙂

Absolute crap, artificially trying to boost demand by not making them enough, as competition is not existent. So people will buy 4090's, later in couple of months once old stock is cleared they will just release the crappy 5090 and boom, all good 🤣 Seriously, who will buy this crap?

Anonymous, 01 Feb 202530 out of 75? where did you read that?
According to Toms... moreThat was more of my theoretical math given that I didn't know the official yield numbers of GB202, thank you by the way.
So with the official numbers, those 47 healthy GB202 are split into Consumer (so RTX 5090) and Enterprise (RTX 6000 Blackwell and the compute modules for AI/Datacenter). Me thinks the Enterprise share gets the bigger split given how much money NVIDIA gets from there.
Keep in mind that the Consumer split, will then be split again between NVIDIA and the AIBs. So unfortunately we end up with the same math I did that is causing the shortages.
It doesn't help that NVIDIA wanted to generate buzz at CES for themselves and their AIBs (since Computex and even their GTC events wouldn't have the same audience) and of course the inevitable geopolitical stuff between US and Taiwan.

Sam N8 808 owner, 01 Feb 2025Is bitcoin mining any profitable now?
I've heard that... moreButcoin hasn't been mined by gpus since 2013. You are 12 years behind ...
Since 2015 it was eth that was mined, but even that isn't mined by gpus since 2022.
Crypto governance increasingly goes to the hands,of the few, so your dream comes true, pity that gpus actually get more expressive and rarer in the meanwhile because as it turns out mining had little to do with anything and it was always nvidia not keeping up with the demand (or prefering to service other segments ,say the enterprise, over that of the gamers)...
So RIP crypto mining , you were my favorite scapegoat. Now we'd need to find another...

punmeisterone, 31 Jan 2025Now here's my Electronics Engineer talking within me.
... more30 out of 75? where did you read that?
According to Tomshardware, it is more closer to 47 perfect dies, 4 partial dies, and 21 dies with some kind of defect - which they could actually redirect as 5080Ti or even something special for chinese market (just like Radeon 7900 gre)

I've heard that... moreWell i dont know much anything about the mining. I just see time to time people sell their mining graphics cards. If they have done that over 10 years then who knows.
Only mining i do is with a scam pyramid scheme program for mobile phones as Pi Coin.
Asking you to find 10 new users to have better security and higher mining rate and so on. While majority of time cant even use the coins and if you try then can lose all of your mined coins.

rizki1, 01 Feb 2025Wondering what games you need a 3060 for? The price differe... moreIt should run 1440p on max settings with 60fps minimum. Well most games are locked at 60fps. Some even locked at 30fps.
First person shooters to get 144hz screen to work the games need to run at 144fps too.

Misleading title!
It's a paper launch .... largest german retailer got a couple of 5090 and about 60 5080..
Artificial scarcity ... for a card that's bearly an improvement over the previous generation ...
You might as well have called them 4090TI and 4080TI super ...
we definitely need some more competition in the market :(

pl2rts, 31 Jan 2025Well the good news about it is that soon the market be floo... moreIs bitcoin mining any profitable now?
I've heard that bitcoin mining output goes down by half every year, and even beyond 2016 it was barely covering the costs.
I think the scalpers who wish to sell for more cash, are a bigger problem than miners, as evident from the $5000 post itself.
What do you think reg. this?

rizki1, 01 Feb 2025Wondering what games you need a 3060 for? The price differe... moreeven a laptop 3060 is better than a desktop 3050 in almost all scenarios. That's how bad a 3050 is, you should not buy a 3050 even if it's cheap.
Even integrated GPUs in some newer laptop CPUs are better than a 3050.

That xx50 ... moreWondering what games you need a 3060 for? The price difference is quite big between 3050 and 3060 in my country.. 3050 and 6600 are the best price to performance you can get.
3050 can play all games at 1080p high settings except with crap optimization games like Stalker 2, Ark ascended, Starfield..

PureOS, 01 Feb 2025Never get second hand graphic card. Especially from miners.... moreI have never bought any of them and i never will.
I probably get something like 4050 or 5050 or something on that level if i ever build a new pc ever again as it wont be for gaming anyways
Also i dont think these can be a lot worse then what i have in my PC now as over 10 years old GTX 970 that i got when it was new and recently released. I built my i5 4th generation on GTX 760 and then the 970 drop out like year later and i switch to that. Already have changed fans once on it as one of the fans broke lose that i had never seen before too.
