Just my opinion, 10 Feb 2025I know the smartphone industry has become a bit boring, but... moreOn a personal level, I concur with you, as having an all-day battery life is an important consideration for me when deciding on a smartphone.
But I would still welcome the existence for this device for several reasons:
Firstly, a design constraint like a certain max thickness would force the R&D team to come up with design elements that enable more efficient use of space. In due time, these elements will also get applied to mainstream devices, which would enable packing of additional components and/or larger battery packs in the mainstream form factor.
Secondly, having a limit on the battery capacity also forces the software team to put in effort to increase the battery efficiency so that reasonable battery life can be eked out from a small battery pack. Again, these software efficiencies would percolate to mainstream devices with larger battery packs, providing an even better battery life.

Could have certainly gone with a 4000 mAH battery at the cost of minimal increase in thickness, just to get over that psychological barrier.
As for whether the product makes sense or not, I am all for companies offering a range of form factors and designs rather than the same generic 7.5-8.5mm thick device (with a camera island) with a 6.6-6.8" punch-hole display. Give me options with sub-6" displays as well as for 7"+ displays. Give me options for 6 mm thick devices as we 9mm+ thick devices (with larger battery and no camera island). I, as a customer, would choose what works for me best.

Unnecessary device. Thickness has never been an issue for Samsung flagships. The Galaxy series has been among the slimmest on the market for years. However, they have been lacking in the camera and battery departments. There is still no fix for those.

I know the smartphone industry has become a bit boring, but even so, other manufacturers are pushing boundaries in battery life, camera technology, and other key areas. Then there's Samsung...
While I understand the appeal of a thin phone, prioritizing thinness to this extreme seems misguided. Are a few millimeters really worth sacrificing an all-day battery and a proper zoom lens? I would much rather have a slightly thicker phone with those essential features. It feels like they are focusing on aesthetics over functionality, and that's a trade-off many users, including myself, are not willing to make

I don't think that 2mm less thickness will improve my smartphone experience. Especially not when you have to give up more things than you gain.

6.6 inch screen and 3900mah battery?! Not much point in making it thinner if it needs a power bank carried with it to get through a day!

Can't wait to see how fragile this phone is when it bends or breaks in one's pocket. And once the average person slaps a case on, the air of thinness is pretty much gone.

$1099 for this "downgraded" so-called slim phone would be chaotic, caused to make Samsung stonks being not profitable.
keep it up until they can go bankrupt in the future.

Instead of focusing on bringing proper, useful innovation and proper upgrades to the vanilla and + models, they release a new model, focusing on thinness, which nobody needs. Seriously, what do y'all think the advantages of having a thinner smartphone are? Saving space? Sure, now you have about 5 more milliliters of width pocket space so you can fit your empty wallet after buying this 😂 Genuinely, I see more downsides than anything with this phone.

Thin, fragile, midrange cameras, awful battery life and many more great features that this phone will offer, likely only for around $1000. A true bargain might I say!

Here's the problem, there is NO need for a super thin candybar phone.
And for God's sake, this isn't even the thinnest phone so far. The Moto Z from 2016 did better than this at 5.2mm, and it had a legitimate reason to be this thin due to the Motomods functionality, which added thickness.
It makes sense for foldables to be thin, but not candybars.
