Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 unveiled: first on TSMC 4nm node, first with ARMv9 CPU cores

12 February 2025
This chipset is also the first in the 6-series to support INT4 for AI tasks and it brings a solid improvement to GPU performance over the previous generation.

Meanwhile both MediaTek Dimensity 6000 and 7000 series are stuck in A76 and A78 cores respectively.

They need to step up their game.

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2025You're right about benchmarks, they're nothing mo... moreIt is majorly due to software. Android has many many variants and versions with various OEM bundles and bloat apps. Plus, you can use developer mode to disable animations, that smoothens things, not all users do that.
So, the final user experience is a huge variable. Plus, we ignore things like camera modes, etc. in Antutu, but a phone is that too, and a lot more.

Also, benchmarks aren't visible to user the way numbers suggest. For example, storge speed from 100MB/ sec to 300MB/ sec is a big boost, but 300 to 900 isn't as noticeable, because you're already on near-peak.

I've had a good experience on Redmi 2 Prime, a 2014 phone with Snapdragon 410, it might've had an Antutu of what, maybe 50,000 or 1 Lakh or so. Because it ran a filtered Android 4.4, it was brutally light OS even on 2GB RAM.
With increasing Android versions, things are getting heavier by the year, plus Google's own spying setup and all.

Benchmarks don't really indicate how a phone will perform in real world use, I've seen chips with lower results than their counterparts in benchmarks when used in the real world they performed better than their counterparts, I've seen inferior chips get similar results in benchmarks to superior chips. Benchmarks are bullshit, manufacturers cheat and I believe that even the creators of these benchmarks are in bed with whoever pays them the most, under the table of course.

Qualcomm is still sandbagging when it comes to feature improvements if they haven't included AV1 decode yet and are still limiting 4K video to 30fps

Anonymous, 16 Feb 2025The phone with "bad" SOC won't have top notc... moreThe most uninspired commend ever written. Any SoC this days can handle a lot of pixels and great refresh-rate displays, even SD4xx without issues or lag. Wanna know why? Because SD4 is now more powerfull then SD8xx 5 years ago. High resolution displays, or top notch as you wanna call them, are not something new, nor i they something to write home about. So yeah, they can be found in a LOT of midrangers, of course not midrangers like poco, cause poco devices are SoC and Storage mid to high end, and the rest is as low as possible, only paper weight specs, like 200mpx camera that is worse then a 12 mpx one in any other phone, and so on. Or you think xiaomi uses the same parts for their 800 euro devices as they use for pocos?

Benchmarks are made to measure hardware in a very unreliable way, while benchmarks do not measure other hardware like mainboard, microphones, battery, screen panel, earpice, antennas, touch sensitivity, resistance ,duration software etc. So yeah, you go buy a 300 worth of SoC and let other sbuy phones😉.

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2025The problem is the "new" midranger is very weak. ... moreGood point, I think Qualcomm should really up their flagship killer or midrange segment like Mediatek does with their beastly Dimensity 8200, 8300 and now 8400 with an all Performance cores setup.

So far only 7+Gen2 and 7+Gen3 are competitive enough.
Though my RM7 with 8Gen1 is still very good in gaming and performance up until now. Though having a hard time with COD Warzone though at high settings.

                            *Also, Antutu 10 Benchmarks:
                            SD8Gen1: 1.2M
                            SD8+Gen1: 1.36M
                            SD8Gen2: 1.55-1.6M
                            SD8Gen3: 2-2.1M
                            SD8Elite: 2.8-3.1M

T M, 13 Feb 2025Most new cpu are just too powerful for 99% of the consumer.... moreWell that's the point on why technology is evolving. If smartphones chipset peaked at SD810 way back 2015, then your phone's chipset wouldn't still be as good as now.

The point is more performance as apps and games are also becoming more PC and console like = less power consumption and longer battery life. In IT, tech needs to evolve or sooner or later newer apps and games as they add new functions, features, will no longer be support older processors.

Newer processors = less price for older processors too.
