The only downside to owning a samsung phone. It takes them almost a year after Google release it to the pixel to get the latest android OS and then you don't get some of it cause your phone is a year old.

NoName, 2 hours agoDont buy samsung, they wont update. Got it!I'm 100% sure they'll update their software, not because they like it, but for their own survival as a revered South Korean brand. However, I STRONGLY refute the nonsense of 7 years of update. Those who studied technical physics or industrial economy, can tell you that 7 years maintenance of ANYTHING is almost impossible, specially when it comes to cheaply produced mass-electronics. Things might evolve and change in the future, but as of the current state of the technology, it won't happen. Please do not confuse fantasy with reality.

ThunderCrackR, 3 hours ago"been developing One UI 7.0 for the last two to three ... more3 years in development, but the OS still isn't ready for older devices, yeah sounds absolutely believable. It seems more like a situation where they realized the S25 series doesn't do much more than the S24, in some cases does less, so they are intentionally trying to remove features from the One UI 7, that they will push to older devices, to make the S25 series look more "feature rich".

vik457, 4 hours agoWhat???The Chinese want to dissociate from the US hegemony. They have been developing their own system/infrastructure away from the West for decades. Maybe you're too young to understand.
We in the West have democracy, we have election every 4 years. There's no such thing in China, they don't plan for 4 years like us, they have much longer planning. Their government will never accept a platform like Android, because they can't control it easily. So they are developing their own system. Just like Russia started developing a parallel Internet maybe 2 decades ago, because they wanted to be able to control it, they don't want to have the top tier servers (Gateways) placed outside of the Russian Federation. I'm not an expert, which explains why I can't explain this issue in a better way.

"been developing One UI 7.0 for the last two to three years. Unfortunately, some features require more modern hardware to run"
So, over these 3 years, were they testing these "new" features on thin air or what until this modern hardware appeared this last year?

deRykcihC, 6 hours agoIf you turn on only process on-device AI, 90% of the featur... more"Gatekeeping"?
As someone with an RTX4070 (standard one) in his PC that occasionally does text2image generation for prototyping scene visuals, I can tell you for a fact phones are nowhere near powerful enough to handle a lot of that stuff on-device (a reasonably sized image with enough iterations to actually look good takes approximately a minute). My other streaming PC has a GTX1650 (standard one) in it, I also tried the same image parameters on that one - 37 MINUTES for 1 image.
You think your phone can match up to a GTX1650 let alone a RTX4070?
Yeah, probably SOME of the AI stuff could be made to run locally, but chances are the power usage tradeoff alone would make it even dumber than it already is...let alone the amount of time it would take to have it processed on-device.

I don't understand why people think/believe that Android will still be around two years from now... It makes me laugh every time I read about 7 years of software support.
