MediaTek's new Dimensity 6400 brings a small upgrade over the 6300 from last year

17 February 2025
The basic design is much older than that, however.

It is designed for "AI! AI! AI! AI! AI!"
Efficiency, most definitely.
But for "AI! AI! AI!", no.
They hallucinate.
Thus making the NPU unproductive.
Which could have been used for more CPU or GPU.

Also consider that this is before "Deep Seek shocked the world!".

Pardon me for posting multiple.
I keep forgetting.
I am getting old.
Especially for an indusutry that is advancing faster (quadruple pace) compared to the 70's.
It is hard to keep up.

Hemedans, 17 Feb 2025Usually it means Tsmc node is more mature now than it was w... moreStill does not justify the naming scheme.

Just as mentioned earlier I got confused between Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake.
    Both are 200 series.
One is for "AI! AI! AI! AI! AI!" (Lunar Lake or V).
The other is regular (Arrow Lake or U / H / HX).

Again as an IT professional me-self, I got lost / confused.
What more for those non-IT person looking in the market.

Or the offensive one, the 13 and 13.5 series.
Internally we call it 13.5 and we never call it 14 series.

Naming a product should be clear.
Whether a person is an IT professional or not, corporations should not be disingenuous.
Especially if corporations do not want to be roasted by the tech gods.

And this is why I really hate Intel's new naming scheme.
I hate it with a passion.
Even as an IT professional me-self, I got confused.
      Especially this 200 series.

Even LTT and Gamer Nexus is not happy with the new naming scheme.
AMD is also guilty of this.

Since I do not have a regular account and do not post a lot here,
I will just give you a +2 text upvote.
      Cheers.

In the budget segment, you can hardly raise a finger for an old chipset recycled, because its a cost conscious segment with least amount of R&D involved.

The same thing being done in the midrange & flagship (8s Gen 3 for chinese flagships) world is a shame though.

It cost fortune to make new chips and shrink them, so to save money chip makers will rehash old chipsets for years. They will keep renaming it to confuse people and believe it is new chips 🤣 Hell, take Apple A12 flagship chipset from 2018 it is as fast as 7s gen 3 and this chip is every where in midrange section. You can see how little progress you get in processing power in midrange or low end and now in high end same. Apple already giving up, A18 pro, A17 pro, basically same chipsets. Now they will gobble all 2 nm TSMC batches and will release A19 pro with 5% improvements. The processing increase year from year as we know it is dead. No shrinking no glory.

adding 100 to its name and its cpu core, okay.
what about sd then or exynos or unisoc.

gsm should have a soc listing page for more digging.
and please update phone finder with modern spec option like quad curve screen as free text is often not great. may add some auto complete to free text from spec sheet.

gsm is good but can be better with little bit more offering to its users.

It's gotten to a point where I remember all the Cortex cores of these chip but can't remember the stuff I study for my course.

These remakes are not like end of world
But as many wise people have said , why not just make just few good chips and not confuse customers.
But if you do Dimensity 6100 , 6100 plus , 6100 Pro Plus, etc
Then it will again cause some issues but that's one way to see it.

When the newer chip is bad than old , that's the issue.
So far only one of 7000 has done that.

A55 being the E cores is always been . Even my new phone has E core as A55 Cortex, its older 8.4A arm. I forgot most stuff.

This things thing is also in the Helio 99 ( the undead ) and some other popular ones that keep showing up .

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2025900Mb/s is bad? That is speed of iphone 14 pro storagethe 14 Pro is 50-80% faster if your numbers for the UFS 2.2 are to be believed, besides some made up number doesn't matter, all that matters is the random read/write speeds. And I don't think the UFS 2.2 will particularly excel at that. UFS 3.1 support should've been there at least.
