I like the concept of Material You, but there are also many complaints I have, including the ones you mentioned. Lots of inconsistency between the UI elements. The monet color palette isn't always accurate. The animations, although more fancy, still lack the finesse from the likes of iOS or other Android skins.

I was hoping Google would make Material You more coherent and refined in A15, but looks like they barely did anything.

Still, I do like the overall look, it just needs a lot of refinement.

Huh? I had those on my Galaxy S4 already, and surely that was not the first device ever to get them.

So some users didn't use it. Is that you, now? Still won't use wallpaper? That junk, clutter in your messy room! Times change, things improve, optimization is better. You're sacrificing functionality and useful things for the notion of 'saving'.

Compare it to the design of GSMArena: efficient use of space and color, strong contrast, sharp corners, still has a distinct branding and intuitive layout.

Android—since, at latest, version 10—is trash.

I left android a decade ago because they removed my calendar lockscreen widgets and iOS had better ones. hmmm, maybe I will think of coming back now that Android is starting to become less locked down that iOS.

Anonymous, 07 Mar 2025Unused RAM is wasted RAM. Unnecessary RAM state changes (even in the name of performance improvements) waste energy. There's a healthy middle.

By the time the original feature gets removed and left abandoned for ages, the reintroduced version is pretty boring to look at.

Personally I like it. I hate using anything other than pattern to unlock my device, which well obviously takes 2-3 seconds, so lock screen widgets would be cool for a few apps that I like

What other good ideas that Google dropped will they bring back? How about showing all permissions for an app when you ask to install it, as they did back when they felt that understanding what you were doing was more important than their commercial incentives? Or at least notifying you when something significant changes, such as new permissions or the app having been sold to a different developer.

But I will agree that material design 1.0 was still the greatest Android UI. It looked both modern and sophisticated.

Google giveth and Google tooketh away after kitkat, and now Google bringeth back.

They should never have got rid of them in the first place. I love Android, but this is one of my pet peeves that I hate about Google. Always killing off features and only bringing them back when their competitors start having them.

Wow, really? Samsung's implementation of Android has had lock screen widgets since *at least* the S10. Surprised that Google themselves are just now catching up.

NothingOS has these, even if pretty limited in variety. I've tried them and they're almost useless when face unlock is a thing - it unlocks faster than i can eve glance at these widgets anyway.

You could add pages of widgets and swipe left from the clock to access them. There were also support upto 6 application shortcuts via the lockscreen too.
