EU says port-less devices are okay, opening the door for Apple

Apple reportedly though of leaving out the USB-C port from the iPhone 17 Air, but didn't because it was worried that the European Commission wouldn't approve.

Physical connectors are a non-negotiable feature.

          They took away earphone jack that was ok, now they wanna take the Type c port? Df is wrong with apple, man just take the whole screen and give us buttons while your at it.

                    Just don't buy it. Android is already on par with iOS and there are plenty of options..

                      someone or many of them got paid a hefty sum in order to change their mind...

                          How would making a device that used to be charged by ports, entirely a only wirelessly charging device be fair and compliant to the laws they made?

                          The rule was to make a standard to ensure that smartphone manufacturers claims of "everyone already has a charger" actually becomes true down the line but if they remove the port, who would have a wireless charger lying around?

                          It's anyways a notoriously inefficient method of charging a device and the long term effects of heat (which is how energy is lost during wireless charging) on devices is well documented to be a battery and performance killer... But who cares right? Anything to sell your secondary associated extremely high profit margin product (Even though iphones already have extremely high profit margins)

                            "Yes we really care about the environment, btw it's ok for you to make devices that charge at like 40% efficiency"
