Alright so here's what has been done:
MS has bought devices and services of Nokia along with Lumia and Asha brand with additional licences to use the Nokia brand on phones that has been or will release under Nokia brand.

Nokia will be left with Nokia System Network, (a division as big as Devices and services) and Advanced technologies division that will licence technologies like Clearblack, Pureview etc to other OEMs including MS. Nokia will also own all of its patents which will again be a source of income.

Nokia has a minority stake in Vertu which will be the only way to own a Nokia in the near future. And it will be expensive.

By the way Nokia is going out with a bang with amazing and memorable phones like 1020 and 1520.

Symbian was open source only for a while. There were some constituents that were needed for it to be functioning properly that were not owned by Nokia, so they couldn't open source it fully. It no longer is in open source domain and is being developed by Accenture. Although, you could find the previously open sourced material released to the public by Nokia somewhere on the web.

Even the Motorola were sold to Google for slightly more than USD 10 bilion but the Nokia,i think it perform better than Motorola but only bought for slightly more than USD 7 billion. The Nokia employees may even get their job undisturbed by this transaction but the NOKIA brand deserves better.

Microsoft is descending into irrelevance. Once their mobile devices and services business fails they'll have nothing left in any other business by that time.
We have started to witness the fall of Microsoft, anybody who can capitalize on it, companies like Google, Apple and Samsung, will replace MS.

Anonymous, 14 Sep 2013As an OS, Windows Phone is like IOS. It's a locked down OS... moreThats because Symbian was associated with Nokia. Android is the King.

Microsoft did the world a favour when they pulled Nokia's ribcage open for the vultures to feed. Lolz

As an OS, Windows Phone is like IOS.
It's a locked down OS limited to only a handfull of devices with very similar hardware.
Android on the other hand is an open source operating system which allows a lot more freedom.
                They are just diffent.
(by the way, Symbian was also open source and had tons of apps. It died)

Mr. R Sole, 09 Sep 2013Yes, thanks for that reply, it was a bit too long and borin... moreIf you didn't read it how did you know it was boring? Maybe you did read it and couldn't come up with a satisfactory response. So what you ended up writing is, well, understandable.

And your joy over the end of Nokia reminds me of Bellatrix Lestrange's celebration in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix after she killed Sirius Black.
Is that who you aspire to be like? A bad guy.

Yes, thanks for that reply, it was a bit too long and boring so I didn't read it all. However I did read the first couple of lines and YES - thats exactly my point, Android is superior to WP, "Meego" (Whatever that is) Sailfish etc.

It's wonderful that you agree. ;)

                          @Mr. R Sole
Really, lets be honest. Are you telling me N9's Meego OS is inferior to Android. I am pretty sure there have been more time spent in development of Maemo and Moblin and then on Meego than on Android.

And working in a basement you say? So far the partners in the Sailfish Alliance are:

Cyberport in Hongkong - digital community with a cluster of technology and digital content tenants.
D.Phone - China’s largest retailer for mobile phones and accessories.
Digia - in 2011, Digia acquired the commercial licensing business for Qt from Nokia and in August 2012 acquired Qt from Nokia.
                          DNA - Finnish mobile network.
Invesdor - Northern European crowd funding platform.
Joiku - produces Mobile WiFi HotSpot software for Nokia phones.
Jolla Ltd. - Finnish smartphones manufacturer.
Merproject.org - open source project developing the Mer tools and the Mer core based on MeeGo, on which the Sailfish OS has been built.
Myriad Group - Myriad Alien Dalvik enables Android applications to operate on non-Android devices.
Opera Software – company that makes browsers for most major mobile phone platforms.
STMicroelectronics - Europe's largest semiconductor chip maker.
Tekes – Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation.
Tencent Holdings - one of the largest portal service in China.

The 'Nokia drop-outs' left Nokia for a reason, they are the directors and core professionals from Nokia's N9 team and their goal is to develop on N9's legacy.
                          Get over your ignorance.

afa, 06 Sep 2013What's wrong with Jolla? FYI Jolla's Sailfish OS has Myriad... moreNah lets be honest with ourselves, the Nokia drop-outs working in a basement won't make an OS on par with Google's Android. It will be more like a cheaper, watered down version that only Jolla phones will use. Nokia's completely dead btw, would just like to remind everyone lol

Surely agreement will say that Nokia can't produce Mobile units for certain period at least.
However if Nokia managment is courages enough, they still can MeeGo with the N9 team. AFAIK N9 team with Meego left Nokia when Eflop deside to stop the project. So they went on their own with Jolla OS and own hardware. But those are the opimistic plans we need as loyal Nokia fans. But now its over. Nokia never listen to us, put all of us down.

if nokia brand name then only the lumia on sale, if it microsoft lumia then i think sale will going down its sure.so there a weightage in name.N one those were talking abt nokia, blackberry shud go for android then its of no use only 2 competetors in market ie android n ios.if there are many os like meego, sailfish, ubuntu mobile,tizen,bb10,firefox etc the true competetion we can feel.otherwise like every other company every1 havng android then only competetion bw brands as well their hardware only.so if elop leave or resign its job then nokia will rebirth to innvovative os of their own like meego(great linux os).i wish nokia shud go for contenuing meego.or go for ubuntu or sailfish os.
