Zero, 25 Mar 2025There is Apple who is the true sovereign in the Mobile SoC.... moreApple's optimization the last 2 yrs is showing its weakness! Actually the last 5 yrs!
1. Their strength is in their software !!
2. Nothing has challenged iOS beyond games alone. NOTHING!
Do you REALLY think that double the RAM to 8GB was ONLY needed to get Apple Intelligence to run? Its the NPU! Since the way iOS manages RAM is using the storage as RAM since its dawn!

I have s24 ultra with snapdragon and vivo x200 pro with mediatek 9400. Both have their own pros and cons. And both are excellent devices. Never felt any lag or heating issues with any of the two phones. Its just branding. Comes down to personal choice imo whichever you choose for yourself. And any chipset with antutu score greater then 1.5 million is capable of doing all the stuff a 2.5 million antutu scroe chipset. Its a necessity created by manufacturers offering stuff we never use in life.

S I R E, 25 Mar 2025I know some people have understandably taken a sigh of reli... moreGood news their already competitive in high end and low end. The only problem is just brand acceptance. 9400 is as good as any Qualcomm chip, yes little bit slower than 8 elite in cpu, but faster in GPU part. It's all about now MediaTek convincing OEM's and raising the bar. If they can beat in CPU and GPU next Elite chip, it would open more doors for MediaTek for sure.

ishreal, 26 Mar 2025MediaTek has a better soc and is THE largest soc maker by m... moreMarket share is a poor argument because most people are not tech followers and will buy whichever phone fits their budget and they don't care about branding past what is says on the box which, everyone knows often just is the phone maker brands with bold texts about some marketing and the model and at most RAM and Storage in retail shops.
Even online product descriptions often bury these more finer details in huge texts or outright use item/product numbers of the SoC instead of the the common naminc convention unless they are using something good. Casual buyers do not go through articles and post before making a purchase decision, it's just budget, word of mouth and how convincing the seller was in case of a retail purchase.
Reviews on e-commerce websites by users are usually a rant about how bad the delivery was and how poor post sales service was, people do not bother with granular details. Most common positive phrase being "good phone, value for money"
And the things they need to catch up on are better driver support, community acceptance (happens when working on software for a specific SoC is not a nightmare), speaking from experience MediaTek SoCs do not take kindly to 3rd party Recoveries and Bootloader changes, they brick far too easy and there basically no documentation and existing tools that make it any easier which Qualcomm has, matter of fact when Exynos was not such a hated SoC, Samsung had a Software tool specific to Galaxy devices (Odin I think it was called, don't remember exactly but it was a blue and yellow icon) that made working with custom recoveries and bootloader very easy.
There might be more issues that I'm not aware of since I'm only a hobby level enthusiast. I have never seen the traffic for MediaTek devices on forums like XDA like I have with Qualcomm.
MediaTek is late to the party and they have to address these less popular aspects to catch up. Reason is that people in short numbers make the things that everyone uses, if the community that builds does not accept MediaTek then they won't make passion projects like Wimulator
There are rumors of future chromebooks being powered by MediaTek SoCs and I hope they succeed. They have the raw power for it and they are of the right track, they need to force end product makers to showcase MediaTek's strengths with good harware, get into tabs with niche features, partner with apps like video editing tools and other productivity apps where they have a upper hand against Qualcomm but they are not yet capitalising on this.
Well respected Tech YouTube channel Juan Bagnel really gets into how MediaTek is upto 40% faster than Qualcomm in file compression and video encoding and decoding but MediaTek themselves are not using these aspects in their favour.
I could go on but I hope you get the point.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2025There's already some Oryon based chips not named elite... moreYes. True, But,
1. That's a PC Grade Chip. Not Phone.
2. My point was that they should not give 'Elite' name to non oryon socs, not the other way around.

One thing about SOC manufacturers that I will never get over is just how much they suck at naming their processors. It seemed like Qualcomm got it down when the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 dropped, but that was completely untrue. The different processor series don't line up with their generation numbers, the S prefix isn't at all consistent across the different processor series, and most obvious, they can't keep a standard naming scheme!

Like Christmas I'll wait as this revisionist tipster will again be wrong
This began with to the mostly fabrication (FLESHED OUT) story started by and singularly relay run by this same 'creator: DCS / IU
He said Elite but not using Oryon
He said X4; A720; A520
He now says Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 but with dropping the elite, (no clean up previous tweet)
and changed to X4; A720 but still the same SoC
Nobody can comment correctly if the facts are inaccurate / based on a story that didn't exist before it was tweeted by this person without a shred of supporting evidence
If the facts remain the same for the next 5 minutes this morphing SoC could be called
QUALCOMM SNAPDRAGON 8 PLUS GEN 2 aka Spartacus
