      Anonymous, 03 Apr 2025Remove all bezels. Its time.I'll and most people like me will take the tame and elegant SONY bezels everytime over the punch-hole and Notch infested market.

      I know it is technically more screen but that's not how it is perceived by at least people like me. Maybe to you it is more screen where it but to us it is no more than an interrution.

      Plus the bezels allow for some golden Era smartphone features like notification LED and front facing stereo speakers.

      Kinda helps with grip while playing games as well and prevents palm touch.

              I'm looking forward to buying the Sony Xperia 1 VII (sale my 1 VI) as soon as it comes out in May or June and I hope for new colors. I support the only Japanese mobile brand in Europe and I hope it will continue for a long time. However, I bought the Technics EAH-AZ100 headphones.

I always loved the scanners on the back and the power button, or even the TouchID on iPhones. Under-display ones are just not my thing, plus they come with the problems you mentioned. It's sad to see user reviews on new phones like the Galaxy and Pixel devices, where customers complain that the fingerprint sensor isn't working after they applied a screen protector. That's just dumb.

                          Had hoped for a wider 18:9, 1440p, 6.8"+ panel from SONY this year but oh well.

                            Capacitive fingerprint readers are more secure than optical and on par with ultrasonic ones while costing much kess than both.

                            It improves repairabilty where you often need to replace the entire display if an under display fingerprint reader goes bad.

                            You don't have to worry about screen protectors. Ultrasonic fingerprint readers do not work well with no compatible protectors which means you have to buy more expensive comoatible ones.

                            Capacitive fingerprint readers are more pwer efficient too.

                            To me personally, power button feels a natural thumb placement when pulling it out of pocket so I like that too.

                            I don't like optical fingerprint readers and no brands seems to be delivering on the promise of huge fingerprint reading areas on the display like it was showcased with concept phone by Vivo, Oppo and other where the entire bottom half could be an ultrasonic reader and improve security by user assigning up to two(2) fingers to a something like banking apps and all.

                            I personally like capacitive side mounted readers more unless they can offer the huge area like promised with ultrasonic initially marketted.

And I do see the pattern of this site or some people wanting Sony to be generalized all along in every aspect to fit to the preferences that is not even their target market, which they already saw the dire consequence with XZ2 and XZ3 7 years ago when they conformed to the normies and made Xperia sales dropped compared to XZP/XZ1 era and they pledged not to return that state again.

Everyone smashed... moreYou can blame XZ2/XZ3 "HTC U design Copycat" design controversy and choose fiasco in 2018 that make Sony had to reserved the modernized-Xperia Z design that already known for the longest time since 2019 with the introduction of OG Xperia 1. Besides, how much differences needed to change if Front-Firing Stereo Speakers are the USP of Xperia, the hallmark feature of HTC that even HTC abandoned in 2016?

                                    yemko, 02 Apr 2025Always late to the party They never chases for being the earliest to the party when they already emphasize that Xperia is now side project of Sony since 2019. They now show Xperia as the technological showcases for other Sony divisions, so being late to the party is better than quit when they have something behind the scenes that they are prepared to show (example: Exmor T sensors)
