The Nokia 808's sensor was a masterpiece and perhaps the best mobile phone sensor of all time. Modern day sensors are MADE with processing in mind. Look at the quad bayer things and stuff. So they just ARE naturally more artificial.

Similarly you can use motion cam for the most natural looking videos (raw videos, directlog etc.)

It's sad how even with such large sensors the photos still look somewhat artificial and heavily processed on closer inspection. No other phone has managed to replicate the Nokia 808 PureView's extremely natural and organic processing, perhaps only Sony has come the closest.

Thank you GSMArena for this comparison and wow, truly a generational leap in terms of telephoto quality.
But is that really anything to get excited about when in reality the 6x is the same size as the Find X8 Pro's/Oneplus 13's 3x? And the same size as the Vivo X90 Pro+/Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra's telephoto lenses? I dont mean to be too doom and gloom but it's kinda sad that it took till now to get a 6x that is larger with a brighter aperture than a 4 year old phone's tele. The Find X7 Ultra's 6x was just way too bad. Which makes the Find X8 Ultra look THAT much better.
The UW cam seems like a sidestep, yes the details are better but it just doesnt have the filmic quality the previous one had. It was my fav UW cam on a phone. The newer one looks distinctively "small sensor" in comparison yet the detail retrieval/noise reduction is better, no doubt due to the advancements brought by the JN5. Look at the writing on the left side of the black wall for example. Either better noise floor, processing or just better AI is being used here. Whatever the case, photos arent that bad, videos tho.... YIKES.
The Find X8 Ultra's videography apart from the main cam one is pretty disappointing. This generation of phones is quite disappointing in terms of videography i'd say, idk why. Maybe my expectations are too high?

Nick Tegrataker, 13 Apr 2025Not to mention GSMArena completely got rid of the studio ca... moreExactly! agreeing with all your points!
I was using that photo comparison tool quite a lot. Especially looking at the feathers of the rope there to figure out the details/sharpness, the contrast, and the saturation (the color pallette was great too) , Also the night photography. It was really showing the potential of cameras.
They shifted from there to speaker test like the loudness really matters. It's about the audio quality and that depends on what device has been used to record and on what device you listen. I don't even mention the id..tic people listening to loud music on the streets, in public transportation. Why people need such loud devices anyways..
They ditched sth completely helpful and started to bring sth completely nit necessary. All youtubers are doing that loudness test anyways.

I find that the audio samples rarely match their measured graphs. The graph might say loud bass, but the audio says almost no bass and in other cases it's the opposite. Which one is to be believed?

Nick Tegrataker, 13 Apr 2025Not to mention GSMArena completely got rid of the studio ca... moreYeah, I agree with all your points. I found that old studio camera comparison chart quite useful and interesting. Maybe I was a little harsh but I do feel they could be a bit more transparent and explain changes like that when they make them. The speaker tests are definitely useful. Hope they don't go the same way as the studio camera comparison chart!

Had to take a look at the PhoneArena review and uhm, their camera scoring is rubbish. The OnePlus 13 actually scored a point higher in zoom than the Find X8 Ultra. Their battery life result looks promising, but I'm not sure if any part of their review can be trusted.

PatDat, 13 Apr 2025You can apply sharpening/contrast in post on find x8 ultra,... moreYou can always do that. But the new UWA cam is a step backwards, vs. the older X7 Ultra. Simply. And RAW shooting with these cams...it'sa joke. Shooting RAW since 2002 via real camera gear, DSLR. You can't defy the laws of physics, into Sensor size, even all extra HW SoC and AI Algorithms. A phone is a phone, is still simply a phone. And the 1" Sensor is only the main camera - into 99% of all cases. That's fine, but here the 13.2x8.8mm Sensor (Nikon developed this into 2011 - it was called Nikon CX, think Nikon 1 V1, J1 btw) 50 MP format is being down-sampled 4x, so the output is usually 12.5 MP, out of 50 MP, for enhanced DR, etc.
If i'd have the money to burn, i'd just buy/import the Vivo X200 Ultra to have fun with. But since i don't, i am ok with my old Xiaomi - and it's perfectly fine. No greed. No social insecurites. :)

Aierlan, 13 Apr 2025All these review sites and reviewers are biased. It's... moreNot to mention GSMArena completely got rid of the studio camera comparison chart *silently* without any proper explanation whatsoever to the readers.
Their new real-life photo shooting sites are also objectively worse than the old ones when it comes to assessing the image quality - Their old balcony scene could be used to examine moire, the hotel scene was great for checking how a camera handles natural textures, and the castle scene had complex coloured patterns around the clock which many midrange phones struggled to resolve properly. Today, we have NONE that is comparable to these old sites, and the new sites aren't even that challenging to midrange phones with anything more than a half-decent camera.
I do appreciate GSMA's new speaker and battery life tests, but has the quality of their reviews actually improved as a whole? Well, all I remember is their iPhone 6s review from 10 years ago was a lot longer and more informative than all the reviews we have been getting for the last 3 years or so..

Goku UI, 13 Apr 2025PhoneArena is biased just like DxOMark...All these review sites and reviewers are biased. It's impossible not to have biases. However some have transparent scoring systems where they explain how their scoring works and have standard tests for all phones e.g. dxomark. Others just seem to give scores based on their own 'intuition' which allows more bias to creep in. I look forward to the day when gsmarena can explain their scoring method if they actually have one. If they don't then I think they should develop one. They complain sometimes about lack of innovation in the phone industry but they haven't really had any innovation at all in their own reviews over a long period of time. Just the occasional tweaks in things like the battery test

It would be nice to see a 12x comparison (in good light conditions). Don't forget to post 12x sample images in the review. The 6x camera is not a 12 megapixel camera, it is meant to be used at 12x.
