Artem S. Tashkinov, 15 Apr 2025That's not a rebuttal. That's an empty message. ... moreAn "IT professional for decades" who doesn't know that operating systems scale their RAM usage based on how much RAM the system has? 😄

just consider this minimum requirements by 2x for normal usage.
e.g. 8GB for 15 and 12GB for 16.
also don't consider ram boost in this.
12GB is normal as today's standard on android to buy new phone.
keeping atleast 3 years update in mind.

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2025You do not understand how RAM allocation works in Android. That's not a rebuttal. That's an empty message.
Claiming someone doesn't understand something when you didn't bother to explain anything yourself is basically nothing.
Meanwhile I've been an IT professional for decades and have a deep understanding of Linux memory subsystem, including file system caching and buffers, shared ram, free vs. available ram, swapping, etc. And oh boy Android uses the Linux kernel underneath.
What do YOU know?

I use 3 phone because I can wait to try new phone every 2 years 🙂🙂🙂
1 for work related
1 for private/gaming
1 for the banking
My work phone is the "old one" that I use LineageOS
A degoogled one.
I don't miss Google at all.
I can watch Youtube with the new pipe apps (premium no ads)
If I want Gmail I can use Gmail download from Aurora Store
Otherwise I can choose Proton Mail, Yahoo Mail, etc.
Or LibreWolf
The one is harder is actually Google Maps for navigation.
The alternative is usable but really not as good as Google.
If I can grade, I would grade Google Maps as A+, and the alternative as B+
But I can use Google maps through web browser if I needed to.

I expected that this will happened. So for those Android manufacturers that are selling phones with 12GB RAM and 1TB storage? And they're saying that it is ENOUGH? THEY ARE LYING!!

They were using Google as a service, and preparing the full tech war.
So, pure HyperOS (China version) & Origin OS can use Android without GMS.
And download through their own appstore.
(And also, they can use HMS, and install Huawei store)

Artem S. Tashkinov, 15 Apr 20256GB minimum RAM? What a bad joke Google. On my phone wit... moreNote that "minimum" requirements and "recommended" requirements are different. "Minimum" only counts for the bare minimum hardware needed just to run the OS itself, and not counting any other apps/background tasks.

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2025so is 4+4 ram plus not going to workout in most cases?RAM Plus is not actual RAM at all... It is a part of your phone's storage allocated to behave as RAM (many call it as Virtual Memory), which does not work that well and often leads to decreased performance. Also, phone's storage is much slower than actual RAM... RAM Plus instead of giving you better performance, takes up some of your storage space (or 4GB as you mentioned) as well... That's why you may want to turn off RAM Plus.

There is a clear need for Android without GMS. All Chinese OEMs and other OEMs should create a consortium to release a fork of Android with GMS and an alternate app store that does not require one. Start it with one model each from every company. And if possible, fund banks to create banking apps without GMS requirements.
