I'm very much impressed by this phone. X200 pro and the Xiaomi 15 ultra just didn't cut it for me. Upgrading from an almost 6 yr old Redmi k20 pro, I wanted the absolute best, and I think this just might be it. I've got my eyes on that burgundy satin finish one with the black accents.

1. Biggest 35 mm camera yet in consumer phones.
2. Industry leading ultrawide module.
3. Industry leading periscope telephoto (significantly better than the one in 15 Ultra and equipped with true macro capability).
4. First smartphone to keep DCG enabled??? That’s huge.
I don’t care about those ISP chips and processing as there is no reason to shoot JPEGs on hardware this capable, but even without them that’s the most innovative cameraphone since the introduction of IMX989. The only possible upgrade is swapping LYT-818 to LYT-900 with variable aperture and that will be game over for the competition. I have Xiaomi 14 Ultra ready to stack up with this beast when it comes out and I hope 35mm main module leaves Xiaomi in the dust as 35mm crop on 23mm LYT-900 is not that good in indoors and low light scenarios.

vik457, 15 Apr 2025And future phones might push it even further with dcg+loficNobody takes advantage of these techs. All gets disabled by software to avoid heat.
Lyt700, lyt700c, lyt808, lyt800/t808, lyt818 and lyt900 all have DCG. Nobody uses.

Whether it's going to be the best or not I don't know but camera wise I think it's the most interesting so far of the ultras mainly due to Vivo offering something a bit different and inclusing so of there own innovations in the phone e.g. their own image processing chips. Also they are introducing Cipa level 5.0 stabilization on all 3 sensors which is a step up from the level 4.5 they previously offered. Of course all that doesn't necessarily mean it'll be any better than the Xiaomi 15 ultra or OPPO find x8 ultra for cameras but I think they are offering more innovation than OPPO or Xiaomi did so I do appreciate that as it puts pressure on the competition

Question is, why? I mean what’s the point of adding another chip in the ISP pipeline? It will introduce latencies vs the on chip ISP already with the SD8 Elite. Shutter lag, post processing lag, etc, those things should be properly tested.
I have a feeling the chip is a Trojan horse for something else, like something to use like Google Lens AI or Visual Intelligence, but from Vivo, as they’re collecting and analyzing your photos and videos.

The main cam is 35mm. I find 35mm difficult to frame but it will produce very sharp photos.

It's harder to control the image quality especially in the corners of the frame. Harder to control exposure too and there isn't that much benefit. I don't think the Xiaomi 15 pro has any tangible benefit over the Xiaomi 15 in terms of main camera. If it was a variable aperture maybe then yeah. Motorola also used f/1.4 on the edge 40 but with a smaller for example and Huawei is using it on some phones but all with variable aperture. Honor as well on the Magic 6 pro and magic 7 pro uses the same sensor as the Xiaomi with f1. 4 and variable aperture

More of the same... It's a beast, blah blah blah. Will it be global? It won't be cheap. 🤷 If it goes over $1,000, everyone knows people prefer to play it safe*, an iPhone or the S25 Ultra... The price will decide everything.

Especially when compared to the other flagships. Vivo is already better with the cameras. Only thing lacking is the OS which is good enough, but nothing special.

A dynamic range of 14 stops is remarkable for a smartphone, considering that the average mirrorless camera typically offers 12 stops.

Looks pretty nice but i just wonder why no manufacturer other than Xiaomi is willing to go down to f/1.4 for the 1/1.3" class sensors. I mean, yeah, it's as bright as an S25 Ultra/Google Pixel 9 Pro XL despite being a 35 mm lens i just dont get why they dont aim for an f/1.4 one. The X200 Pro is an f/1.6 lens as well. Only the Xiaomi 14 Pro/15 Pro have a 1/1.3" f/1.4 lens afaik.
Whatever the case, that aint the worst of it all, im just curious about the camera button placement. I don't understand why they can't/don't just put it at the same place as the Xperia 1 series or even where the nubia Z70 Ultra put it. Excellent positioning for a nice two stage shutter button. Simple yet undeniably amazing. Is it really that hard not to copy Apple and to just make something simple yet nice? This one looks like it's gonna be higher, and thus more uncomfortable to use, than the Xperia/nubia ones.
Hope the photography's and videography's end results make up for these flaws. Curious to see what the battery/display is gonna be like, are they gonna use a Samsung panel again? is the battery going to be disappointing like the X100 Ultra? Only time will tell.

It seems that all 3 lenses have 5EV of CIPA stabilisation rating - I'm actually impressed by the fact that the UWA camera is also optically stabilised just as well as the other two cameras. X70 Pro+ would be so proud!
6.8ms sensor readout time is also great news, but I bet that's a number for a 10-bit video footage and it would definitely be slower when reading it out at a higher bit depth. While a high-end dedicated camera sensor can be quite a bit faster than this (e.g. Fuji's X-H2S could theoretically scan 26MP in 6.3ms in 12-bit), this is still a decent number for a smartphone image sensor and absolutely nothing to scoff at.

Almost 6 years with the Redmi k20 pro, I thought vivo Samsung S25 ultra or Vivo x200 pro or definitely Xiaomi 15 ultra would've been it. But no, this. The x200 Ultra, this is it. This'll be my next phone 🤞.

Hard pass for me
Since the 15 Ultra's bad battery and Oppo's china exclusively i was aiming for Vivo's come up with the ultra but looks like im not purchasing any ultra for now!
