Xiaomi, Oppo, vivo and OnePlus are rumored to be exploring the idea of Android without Google

02 May 2025
Xiaomi is said to lay the groundwork for that with HyperOS 3. Huawei is allegedly also involved with the project - the company already has its own Google-free platform.

Originally Harmony OS was still an Android system with a Huawei skin. But the newer version Harmony OS NEXT (2025) is totally independent of Android. But here lies the problem:
* "The proliferation of operating systems, beyond the current Android and Apple split, risks further frustrating consumers who already face compatibility issues."
* "Instead of benefiting users, creating more operating systems will likely just add to the existing consumer pain points caused by the separation of Android and Apple."

Do not fantasize about an independent OS made in China. It will be prohibited in all US dominions plus tertiary sanctions for those who dare not to obey. With Android/iOS which in practice are outposts of three letter agencies world is under tight control and that won't be given up in any circumstances. And China will be fully decoupled living in a parallel universe.

Did anyone notice after HyperOS how hard to unlock bootloader in a Xiaomi Phone??
You need to give so many Q and A (like interrogation or interview or exam type) which ask indirectly by the Chinese Government. And you should score minimum 90%.

TD070VA1, 03 May 2025Google-free phones? Sign me up! Android-incompatible phone... moreeh, what about LineageOS or GrapheneOS though? they have done quite a good job at erasing Google spyware out of Android, I think.

The, 03 May 2025I know this sounds stupid but I'll just ask anyway. ... morefor me, both of them are awful, and honestly shouldn't exist in the first place.

However, in my opinion, if we account in politics and culture stuff, American spyware should be "way easier" to erase. Unlike in China, you can directly complain to the government officials regarding all the spyware stuff and be free to voice your own opinions and pressure the officials who support spyware (just look at Louis Rossmann and the right-to-repair activists for example). And Western people are far more likely to complain about privacy. (GDPR, anyone?)

Unlocking bootloader to sidestep Google spyware on Western brands' phones is easier, too. Meanwhile, Huawei/Oppo/Vivo normally don't allow you to unlock the bootloader at all (I remember a few edge cases, but that's it), while Xiaomi requires you to do very finicky steps to unlock bootloader (and that's just for global models, if you buy a Chinese one you'll have to pay 60-100 USD to get the phone unlocked, or find a Chinese national ID and pass an extremely difficult exam that even experienced developers cannot easily solve).

this will be just data transfer from usa to other country. nothing will change for users.

it's not like it will good for privacy nor it's currently and never be.

but having options like this is good and all manufacturers should allow users to flash their phone with any legit outside os for phone.

Either way someone's spying. If thats the case id rather have the latest and greatest from the chinese flagships than paying a premium to Samsung/Google/Apple for subpar tech.

The, 03 May 2025I know this sounds stupid but I'll just ask anyway. ... moreI have nothing to hide in terms of information that I have to worry about who is following me. I don't care if the collected information goes to America or China. I am not influenced by the advertisements that offer me the idea that I can be fooled into paying for something, because I have a head on my shoulders and I always consider the things I want to buy and I will not make a decision based on how many times I see an advertisement, but on the basis of what will bring me the most value for my money.

But what interests me is that there are more options for me, and not for everything to be held by one company/state and for it to unilaterally decide and be able to blackmail and force people/governments by holding everything. And only it should make profits or at least a huge part of everything should be for it.
Because tomorrow, for example, the orange clown decides that Android is only for Americans and Koreans and the rest will pay or not use it. And I don't like that.
