Anonymous, 08 Oct 2013The list continues: - No Memory Card Slot - No Removable ... more- No Memory Card Slot - Lie, check with GSM Arena search

- No Removable Battery - Lie, check with GSM Arena search

- No True Multi Tasking capability of Symbian (running more than 40 Apps on background) - Multitasking capabilities are not measured by the number of apps you can run simultaneously. That's pure RAM memory thing.

- No full USSD Codes like Symbian - WP8 has full USSD support, WP7 doesn't.

- No Java Support - Aside from Symbian, please answer what smartphone OS has a NATIVE J2ME support (not talking about 3rd party solutions)?

- No USB On-the-go
- No HDMI port, etc, ets..
Agree, these features are missed.

Anonymous, 07 Oct 201310 Things Lumia can't do: 1) No FM Transmitter 2) Any w... moreAs a private Android and business WP8 user:

    1) So does a majority of Android phones (S4, for instance). But, it's a hardware limitation, not a software one, they just don't see the point of installing FM transmitter.
    2) Lie. You have a number of 3rd party browsers available, like Nokia Xpress and UC Browser. Search.
    3) Lie, again. There is a number of file managers. Search, again.
    4) Yet another plain lie.
    5) Hanging is a problem with any operating system ever.
    6) First truly missed capability and I agree it should be there. Hopefully soon.
    7) Don't use the button then. I cannot see how is this "a thing a lumia can't do"? On Android, you can't remove or change Google search strip on your homescreen unless you root or flash another ROM and that's not even available on all the phones. And when you do remove it, the empty space on the screen can't be used for anything else.
    8) Same as Symbian.
    9) Look under 8).
    10) This is being remedied with the latest update. As for equalizer, at least one free 3rd party Equalizer is available.

VPN support is coming, but please do tell us how often do you use it on you phone or computer. That's router's or proxy server's job.

I've never seen an ad on my home screen. There are Ad blocking softwares, but again, you cound never block a single ad on a Symbian phone.

What privacy features? On Androd you can't use PlayStore, GoogleMusic,Maps, Navigation, Youtube, Hangouts, Chrome,... without Google knowing yhat you do, but jeez, on WP it's a problem.
S/MIME and a lot of other features are coming with Enterprise Feature Pack. But, I'll agree: right now they don't exist.
"cannot delete files with an unknown extension" - You can. "cannot upload/email videos, music, or pictures to anything but Skydrive" - You can.
"no notification center" - You didn't have that on Symbian either. It's coming with the next update, publicly confirmed.

"Do you get the point yet? Windows Phone is now the oldest Smartphone OS on the market dating back to the Windows Mobile days and it still lacks basic smartphone functionality!"
You're an ignorate who spews lies and hate and doesn't bother to check the facts.

AnonD-84894, 08 Oct 2013Smartphone is about smartness... not the number of feature... moreYour argument is dead. Poster after poster has explained why Windows Phone is a failure. You wanted a list of 10 things that Lumia couldn't do...we gave you about 25 things. You kept moving the goalpost further saying "Wait until the GDR3 update." Why do we have to wait until 2014 for feature parity with 2010 Symbian when Android will provide most of those features RIGHT NOW?

And please explain why the current flagship device, Lumia 1020, produces worse images than its two year old counterpart, the Nokia 808 running Symbian. I'll give you a hint: Windows Phone could not handle the separate Broadcomm image processor.

Windows Phone is a joke OS written by a company with no direction, which has trouble understanding its market. Only the fact that Blackberry screwed up even worse provides any glimmer of hope that WP will maintain relevance, and then it has a long way to go before it meets enterprise standards.

I had Windows Mobile 5 on an HTC Dopod (2007?) and MS never did release an update for that phone. IF the Microsoft acquisition of Nokia goes through and MS doesn't change they'll successfully kill off the legacy of Nokia.

Windows mobile 5, 6 and 7 were all the same. They even went as far as deliberately building in obsolescence to get out of probviding upgrades. The final straw for me was when WP7 dropped support for SD cards just after I had bought one for my WM6 phone. I then moved to Android and have never looked back and given their appalling track record I do not see it happening anytime soon, if ever.

Symbian was never perfect. But if there was an OS which had the potential to bring us quite close to PC level power.. it was only Symbian.

Had they developed it further, it would've become a cult OS by 2013.
Symbian had the basics covered so well, that it had the potential to be hit....

May Elop become even more fatter with money he's sucking from both organisations.

AnonD-84894, 08 Oct 2013Lumia 520 is more popular than Asha... Now Nokia is Micros... moreSilly comparison. Nearly all the Asha phones lack 3g (think one of the new ones announced will have it, but it's still a smaller format handset), have lower quality cameras, less memory, are much smaller than the Lumias and are missing many features the Lumias have.

I guarantee you, if they used the Asha 1.x OS on one of the Lumia handsets the sales of that phone would crush it's WP counterpart.

I've said this a number of times, Microsoft needs Nokia more than Nokia needs Microsoft. If the Nokia shareholders are smart, they'll reject the Microsoft offer for their handset business.

It's obvious he's talking about a user accessible file manager. Which Blackberry, Android, Meego and Symbian all have.

Smartphones isn't about features? A rather foolish thing to say. If you don't have features then how are you going to make your smartphone smart? It wasn't smartphones first and then featurephones came along. Smartphones came with the capabilities to manage the features better. Samsung's smartview capabilities are an great example. Automatically scrolling a webpage down when you reach the bottom of a page? Nothing less than brilliant. (A feature that I see people standing up on the subway train take advantage of every day.)

Buying phones on what the OS' maker says it's going to include in future releases is terrible advice, compounded by using WP as an example. Microsoft Windows Mobile up to version 7 had a user accessible file manager then took it out. There has been talk about bringing it back, but so far it's been nothing but talk. Their update last month is a perfect example of talk being cheap, because it could have easily been re-introduced in that release.

Believe it or not, quite a few people are "smarter" than their smartphone. So moving and copying files between media inside and outside the device is not a problem and in some cases necessary.

Oh no wait I'm sorry the mistake they did was not kickin Elop's ass outta there after the 2nd year with WP. I mean come on their OS wasn't upgradeable to WP8? That kinda fiasco is wat makes consumers wary of a company.
