Anonymous, 07 Oct 2013Go back and read my post on the next page, where I succinct... moreNokia's exiting the mobile business has NOTHING to do with adopting WP as their OS. Or is WP also to blame for Blackberry's struggles? Afterall Blackberry was also a dominant player, and yet where are they today? And if we want to suggest Android for Nokia, what of Motorola? or HTC? Even Sony is not making as much revenue from Android (why do you think Ericsson willingly sold of their share of the joint venture? Of course, Sony is better off because they are not solely dependent on mobile devices). Only Samsung massively benefits from Android as of now, and we know it's because of their incredible hardware delivery advantage. Even google has to strongly subsize the Nexus line of devices to improve Android's traction. The fact is that Nokia's problems, including adopting WP (if you consider it a bad move) started BEOFRE microsoft got involved with them. If Symbian was so great and successful, then why did they bring in Elop in the first place?
I have most mobile systems - iOS (up to 4S), Android (Nexus 4), WP (L920), BB (up to 9900) and Symbian (up to N97). To be honest, they ALL have their good points but this is the flow of technology, and it does not mean they are not good companies. Nokia was caught napping with Symbian (courtesy of Apple) and they have paid the ultimate price for it, I still salute their awesome team though! If there is anyone to 'blame' for the present shift in mobile technology, it is Apple. MS simply took advantage of an already ailing company, which is what any sensible business person would do, this is not a charity afterall... You take whatever advantage you can if you hope to survive!

very bad... nokia got insane by turning only to windows. symbian has the potential of a stable operating system with low cpu usage. I used symbian smart phones my whole life. now its gone. and for me.... nokia is gone too. Good bye nokia.

What does this mean for Nokia email service? Does it mean we will no longer be able to receive emails on the Nokia smartphones running symbian?

I recently acquired an N9 and am extremely saddened to hear this news :( I can't help but feel if they had gone with Meego instead of Windows they would be in a much better state of affairs right now.
The Meego OS is incredibly slick and nice to use, and had such great potential to be a genuine competitor and it was all thrown away. Such a sad story.

the greatest mistake ! I've loved my 701 and I would have used it a few more years if support for Symbian would have been offered (especially the maps) ! But in this condition I'll go sadly for Android ...no way I'll use the horrible Windows phone ... RIP NOKIA !!!

Anonymous, 07 Oct 2013Go back and read my post on the next page, where I succinct... moreHuh? And the Note 3 flagship thing doesn't have FM radio at all, lol, not even a software update will fix that, hey fanboy? And poor low light camera with no OIS? Mmmm... add to it the malware, spyware, bloatware, addware and whatever other ware on the 'pick what virus you want today bot store'.

AnonD-3584, 07 Oct 2013Sadly Nokia fans are stuck in the past with their symbian..... moreYou don't understand, do you? THERE IS NOTHING OUT THERE THAT CAN COME EVEN CLOSE TO SYMBIAN. We tested them, we used them, we disliked them! The "Past", for you, is in fact 10 years in front of the rubbish that is selling now in stores. Sorry, sometimes the "past" is way better then the present. And in most of the times, the future just repeats what has already been in the past;). Therefore and as always. In minimum 3 years, other crappy systems will be able to do what Symbian has done since the first day of it's life;). I can't deny, they are trying hard...

AnonD-177049, 07 Oct 2013Should have been done ages ago people still think symbian... moreThat's cause you have no idea what a mobile system is;). Symbian is still the only TRUE mobile operating system there is. and that's a FACT. Nothing can beat it. Now, i really don't care what you and all Trolls will say, cause one thing is for sure: You guys have no idea what a system is, how it works and why! And believe it or not, Symbian is way more smarter then any crapp that sells right now. If it sells, does not mean is good. If it has apps, does not mean is smart;).

AnonD-8044, 07 Oct 2013It is sad Ive used Symbian from 2003-2013 because still use... moreYou can still use your N8 for all that you just will not get any new apps for it. I have an N8 and its now just my Camera don't use it as a phone. Just take a chance and get the Lumia 1020 anyway.

Go back and read my post on the next page, where I succinctly identified about 15 features that Lumia is still missing from personal experience. I said FM Transmitter, you wouldn't know what that is unless you ever had a true Nokia smartphone running Symbian. FM Radio was only added back to Windows Phone back in July, as was the sleep screen. WP8 still does not have feature parity with Symbian from 2010. And yes I'm aware that you can set the volume of the ringtone via volume rocker just like any phone made in the past 20 years, but you cannot set the volume of that ringtone INDEPENDENTLY of other sounds (Youtube/Music/etc.). I know this because I have a Lumia 1020. BTW the camera on the Nokia 1020 isn't even as good as the Nokia 808 that I sold to get it; it is feature-disabled because WP8 could not handle an on-chip image processor.
Windows Phone is a joke of a smartphone OS and was a mistake for Nokia. For all of you "defending" this decision, why then, must Nokia exit the smartphone business two years after making its fateful decision?
