Charles, 02 Dec 2008Lets get something straight. I bought an N96. It was an ... morei know i noticed that too, but thats just the early software, animations are easier implemented into the firmware, even the early releases of FP2 like on the N96 protos also lacked the animations but when N78 the first FP2 phone was realesed we got them. Then N81 also never had any animations or smooth scrolling but nokia decided to add them cause it was the New Nseries look. I'm really impressed with the way each part moves into place too, hopefull we will get that on the actual phone cause you never know we these companies like to screw people over like with your N96...i too had N95 8GB...sold it and was waiting for N96 but its no worth it. later homie

I think phone with the best sund quality is the very first Nseries phone. The N91, i am sure the 6200 has an excellent sound quality but i am sure N91 is the king...please let me know if i am wrong

How hard is it to make a smooth touch screen UI like the iPhone's? Smooth and pleasant to use, way better than ALL of the other touchscreen phones. The iPhone is only sold like that because of its UI (hype not included) since all the other features suck. Wake up, Nokia! Don't ruin this new flagship like you did with the N96 which is a complete failure...

I cannot wait!!! How come it cant come out during Q1 LOL!!! So many of you out there are a little bit over-critical. There is NO company who has a perfect phone, but by golly Nokia is in my opinion the best at what they do. Im hoping for one thing... Thats for Nokia to do this one better than how they did the N96. They waited ages and ages to release that device & once they released it FINALLY!!! It was pretty much overlooked. So since it is announced to be released in Q2 of 2009, Im hoping that it will not be pushed back further and further.
Im an NSeries fan and I have really been looking forward to this!!!

No big difference between N96 and N95. Just integrate touch screen with N95 and double the memory size of N96 then it becomes N97. It is not worth to spend $$ for it. Sigh!!!

Anonymous, 02 Dec 2008Picture quality also comes from the lens and the image sens... moreYes i know , Lense, Sensor, Focus, Optics - matter
but if you have a Camera such a SLR or Digital camera.
The SLR would be best afcourse with its HUGE Lense and optics are HUGE and the Megapixel would be like 10 or 8MP
With a SLR camera you could take a picture in the nightime and Not need the flash....
Digital Camera's would need the flash depending on the lense size and how dark the room would be.
On a Phone camera if used in Night and same situtation happened ....
you would see DEAD Pixels in the image ...becuase the lense is to small

Lets get something straight.
I bought an N96. It was an upgrade from N95 8GB that I had.
The screen is better and the new Symbian OS with a few cute
animation looks nice. but here are my problems :
1. First thing I noticed is the keyboard is uncomfortable
to use.
2.The loudspeaker lacks BASS power.
3. ALL the features in N95 is the same with N96.
4. The camera button is CRAP. Getting auto focus is difficult and
uncomfortable to use.
So I ended up going back to my N95 8GB because I find it faster to use and more comfortable. I have 800 pictures, 500 MP3s, About 20 Videos, and I still have 3 GB left to use.
I am saddened with N96. And now I will sell it.
With the N97, the PROMO video is very misleading.
The Animations were fantastic as on how the screen switches on one
screen to another. But when you look at the LIVE DEMO'S, all of the
fluid screen movements are not found.
Big Disappoinment with Nokia. But I'm still going to buy this phone.

Dani, 02 Dec 2008Who says Nokia is the king of camera's now?
and and mo... morePicture quality also comes from the lens and the image sensor used... there are far more factors in determining quality then megapixels alone...
Head over to www.dpreview.com and read the beginners forums and figure this out before looking like a ______ (fill in the blank with your favorite insult.)

Asd is correct, the more megapixels, the more noise/graininess the photo is. the megapixes count is one of the least important things for your average camera user. More critical is the lens, elements and sensor. On these phones (sony, nokia etc) the sensors are tiny and picture quality poor. Furthermore, they use digital zoom which is really bad. Although, these phones are not designed to be professional cameras so im not slagging them off.
But, what is daft, is people arguing about this phone having only 5 megapixels compared to some 8MP samsung, lg models, etc. In essence, the Nokia could outperform all these 8MP camera phones if it has a better sensor and better optics. The 8mp cameras would have the advantage of being able to crop/cut certain parts of images and blow them up.
Anyways, im going for the nokia 5800. I cant be bothered waiting 7 months for this phone. In a few months time we will see a better model than the n97 which will maybe be released 3/4Q 2009. If I keep waiting for the next best thing, i'l never buy a new phone.
Peace dudes

nice spec sheet...
But why does it still look so toy-ish...
Looks exactly like the rest of the N-series.
Normally that wouldn't be a bad thing, but I would've thought they'd put more effort in for their two new flag ship N96 N97...
N95 looks better to me...

New slogan of Nokia is now "Nokia - Copying People" apparently. Why innovate when you can copy? The Nokia N97, that Nokia announced today at Nokia World event in Barcelona, EU, is actually a copycat of an old Windows Mobile phone - HTC TyTN II:
Furthermore Nokia also:
... bribed several journalists and bloggers by paying for their flights to Barcelona, hotel rooms, food and free demo units of various Nokia devices - not that it is anything new here, but it is worth noticing how many journalists do not disclose at all who paid for their stay at Nokia World.
... completed purchase of Symbian Ltd. - previously Nokia owned only "part" of Symbian but de-facto it was fully controled by Nokia. We were the only publication that was claiming that Symbian is not an independent consortium but just a puppet of Nokia and now the final ultimate confirmation of this claim has materialized. We were right all the time!
... launched Nokia Messaging that is trying to mimick what RIM BlackBery and MS Exchange are doing: push email.
... launched Nokia Maps that is trying to mimick 3D functionality and other features of Google Maps and Microsoft Live Search Maps..Commentary: Nokia still has the biggest market share in the smartphone market globally, but this share is dropping significantly due to huge sales of Apple iPhone and soon it will shrink even more thanks to Google Android. Furthermore in USA - the biggest economy in the world - Nokia's market share in smartphones is tiny and Nokia lags there behind both Apple iPhone and Windows Mobile. New Nokia N97 has no multi-touch and its design is carbon copy of old HTC design. Conclusion: truly Nokia's new slogan should be "Nokia - Copying People".
