Moto x, The HTC One S finish could accommodate a 4.5 as could HTC 8X (nice body) need an Android version though. The new Sony Mini coming comes close though.

I do see your point, the bigger phones aren't for everyone, I still like the look and fell of IOS 7.. though for web browsing and gaming the larger screens are just awesome, and I don't feel the difference carrying the phone around as the iPhones are heavy for their size...

During the time of nexus 4 i realize bigger screens are bulky and i was so jealous when i saw people with iphone 5's because they look so handy and elegant. There was no need for the big real estate. I hated the fact that i have to do everything with 2 hands on my phone.

Having used my first android device (4"7 Screen Nexus 4) I think the trend is going back to a "usable" sized screen. I think 4"7 is the very very maximum for me. I just went back to the iphone 5S gold and i just realize a phone can be useful, compact and elegant to hold even in a 4" screen

If Apple actually made a phone with decent specs and a bigger screen then this will kill their massive profit margins, that's why IOS is not true multitasking. Look at the Ipad mini, why did they put a old CPU in it whilst all the high end android tablets were coming out with quad cores and more ram

Larger screens is a natural progress - to a certain point.
Take the Motorola Droid Mini, smaller width than the iphone 3GS, but with a 4.3" screen rather than 3.5". Not bigger in your hand, but much bigger screen. It does not have a overkill screen resolution as Samsung and others. Meaning you get more from both battery and CPU+GPU.
Up to 28 hours talktime on Droid Mini vs up to 11 hours on 5s.
I think the iphone has too small a screen, but saying it's not sharp enough is BS. If they get it up to about 4.7" with 1366x768 resolution - and not too much wider than todays 5s, it would be better able to compete for users demanding larger screens.
Take the Moto X, it's 4.7" and has a very slim frame - 65.3mm in total width. Remember the 3GS was 62.3mm wide and much thicker than Moto X. Almost the same, only much larger screen and battery in Moto X.

The numbers indicate that, embarrassingly, the year-old iPhone 5 outsold the half-year-old Galaxy S4 as late as last August, despite the imminent announcement of the 5S a few weeks later. Further, website usage data indicates that large screen phones are far less common than small and medium screen devices.

I just switched from an iphone 5 to HTC one. Iphone 5S and 5C are way over priced and battery is no good. I can easily use the HTC ONE with one hand, Iphones needed a bugger screen and better battery, more customisation with and flexibility with IOS... right now flag ship Android Devices are the market leaders...
