iPhone still s*cks!, 06 Dec 2008iPhone is not really a smartphone. it is A SHOW OFF PHONE! ... moreThe iphone is a smartphone. Only an ignorant person would say that it's not =)

There is no definition that outlines standard features that a smarphone should have. As long as it manifests computer-like attributes, that device can be considered a smartphone. Don't bank on MMS so much. MMS is not everything. The iphone can email pictures. It may not have BT file transfer, but it has an application called Airshare that works the same. You can install legal applications on the iphone. That's what the application store is for, lol.

The iphone also offers other features that most cellphones don't have. It all depends on what your needs and priorities are. You are being unreasonablly silly =)

If multi-touch is the only thing that's good about the iphone, I don't think anyone would buy it. BTW, I am posting this comment using my iphone =)

Anonymous, 06 Dec 2008HTC Touch HD has a 800x600 3.8 inch display :)))). The Ipho... moreYes, HTC HD has better resolution and has a bigger screen than the iphone, but the iphone's hvga and 3.5 display is nothing to be laughed at either because the vast majority of the phones out there have 2.8 and below displays with qvga. So what is there to laugh about the iphone's display?

Yes a lot of phones out there can flip through photos as well, but not as smooth and as instantaneous as the iphone can. HTC HD does not even come close to the fluidity of the iphone's UI. Didn't you read its reviews? What's your basis in saying that the HTC HD's touchflo looks 3x better than the iphone's interface? If the iphone's colors hurt your eye, then you need to see your opthalmologist because there is nothing visually hurtful about iphone's colors. Again, most phones have photo zooming capabilites, but not as smooth as the iphone's multi-touch.

Show me that skyfire phone that can load a webpage between 3-4 seconds. Can HTC HD do that? I don't think so. You're speaking rubbish.

You don't need to play football with your phone for its screen to get scratches. Regular use of your phone can easily cause scratches. My HTC Diamond got scratches just by using its stylus, and according to HTC HD's review, it shares the same fate as the Diamond. Not a good thing.

When I spoke of lag, I was obviously referring to sluggish performance, not the NORMAL processing lag time in opening an application.

Yes, winmo has apps everywhere, but it is not as dependable, as straighforward, as accessible, as safe, as easy, and as convenient as the iphone's application store. Yes, YouTube videos are not really of high quality, but it does look better on the iphone compared to other phones, and that was my point.

The iphone's design is one of the best, that is why even your HTC HD, among other touchscreen phones, are inspired to follow the same design. All black is fine, but it can be boring as well. Having some colors gives it more life and makes it more amusing, and not necessarily childish. Everyone likes color TV's, not black and white TV's, lol. Do they even sell black and white TV's? LOL. Good for you if you like black, but just because you prefer black, it does not mean that white a bad choice either. Every mac reminds you of your fridge? Wow, that's a first, lol.

What can the iphone do that your HTC HD can't? Perform smoothly =)

Microsoft had plenty of time to fix up its bugs and user interface problems. Way back from WM 5 to now WM 6.1, nothing much has happened. People are sick of been patient, they want results. I mean the market say’s it all. It’s a petty because Microsoft WM has so may good programs, it just needs to think a bit more about the user interface. Not everybody out there are software engineers. Any Tom Dick & Harry should be able to use this OS without too much trouble. I don’t know what is going on at Microsoft, but even their desk top software, Vista is not doing too well, bugs and more bugs. I think Microsoft relies too much on third party software for many of its applications and in the end it just doesn’t work properly on the OS. Its about time Microsoft came up with some software of its own that do work properly first time without the bugs.

iPhone is not really a smartphone. it is A SHOW OFF PHONE! really! let me ask you all iphone fanboys out there:

"how can you say that it is a smartphone if it can't take MMS, bluetooth transfer, video, expansion slot, crappy 2MP camera, can't install "legal" softwares in it and so on?"

if anybody can answer that, i will get myself an iphone too!

note: even the most basic cellphones can do most of the stuff on my question... why can't the so-called "smartphone" iPhone have it? very funny!

the only thing that's exciting about iPhone is the Multitouch and that's it! Let me ask you one thing again, are you still going to buy an iPhone if it wasn't for the multitouch?!!!

You can flip photos. So can the Touch HD on the Touch FLO3D, that looks 3 times better than the childish interface with colours that hurt my eyes. You can zoom in on photos? So can any 2-3 year old mobile :))))))))
40 seconds to load a internet page?:)) How about 3-4 seconds (Skyfire, and it isn`t available for the Iphone:)) )
Scratch proof glass? I don`t play football with my phone.
You said there is no lag, correct? Then why the hell does it take a second or two to open apps? If there is no lag then the apps would open INSTANTLY.
You mean the 40.000 + apps available for WinMo (Only 21.000 on XDA Developers)
And how the hell can you watch quality youtube clips when all youtube clips are crap (quality wise) on ANY PC ANY Mac ANY phone.
Design? We are in 2008, this is how design looks like :
                http://www.mobilegazette.com/handsets/htc/htc-touch-hd/htc-touch-hd-combo.jpg

Designed by Georgio Armani. Thats how design looks like, from a real designer, learn from that apple fanboys. All black&sexy , not colorfull and childish. Like my PC, also black and sexy, not an outdated white like macs (btw, every Mac reminds me of my refrigerator :)) )

So, what can you do on the Iphone that i can`t do on my HTC Touch HD?:))

People continue to make the same mistake, focussing on what it can't do while underestimating what it can do.

These figures show that it was an expensive lesson.

The winners will be consumers who can expect a new range of products.

iphone, 05 Dec 2008Can someone with an iphone mms me a photo. or record a vide... moreNo, my iphone cannot MMS you a photo, but it can email you one. And no, it cannot record a video for you unless you unlock it. But I can tell you what other cool things it can do. It can pull photos, flip through photos, and zoom in and out of photos smoothly with no lag time. It has multi-touch. It has a scratchproof glass screen. It has a beautiful 3.5 HVGA screen. It has one of the fastest web browser. It has a solid & smooth OS. It has a fluid and user friendly UI. It has one of the best music player. It gives you direct & straightforward access to THOUSANDS of applications with ease. It renders one of the best video quality of YouTube. It has a very nice push email. It has the most responsive and intuitive touchscreen, barnone. It has a beautiful design, etc..... Do those cheapo models that you are talking about have those? The iphone has so many other useful features that MMS becomes not so important =)

As for the battery. Regardless what phone you have, you still need to go to a store to buy the battery. Same with the iphone. You need to go to an Apple retail store, and better yet, they save you the hassle of replacing the battery yourself because they would do it for you. Will your phone provider to that for you? I don't think so? =)

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2008Actually thanks to jailbreaking you can do pretty much what... moreIt's going to be the survival of the fittest. Moto is pretty much out of the race. They almost need a miracle to bounce back. Total reinvention maybe, and it's going to be tough on them.

The iphone has the least of worries among all of them. The iphone is pretty much safe. I say that because Apple found an almost exclusive niche in the cellular phone world which the others will unlikely follow. Their approach is very unique. Even AT&T with their decision to only support a single OS (Symbian. Giving Nokia the advantage), will not drop the iphone only because of Apple's strategy of supporting their own products, giving AT&T less worries on iphone issues. See how Apple's walled, protective approach is working well for them?

This battle is ultimately between Nokia, Samsung, HTC and SE, with SE more on the losing end and Nokia being the probable victor. But I have to consider that as far as funding is concerned, Samsung and Sony has other profitable lines of business than they can pull resources/funds from (TV, Computers, Home Entertainment, cameras, etc), unlike Nokia and HTC that have to desperately depend on their only strong line of business, their wide range of phones. So the situation can change unexpectedly for anyone. This is going to be a very interesting competition, and I'm one anxious spectator =)

This is my personal opinion with no intentions of offending any fans =)

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2008The reason why the N95 sold more than the iphone, is simply... moreActually thanks to jailbreaking you can do pretty much whatever you want with an iPhone, with the right software there are no restrictions on what music you can use as ringtones, movies or video clips you can load on, there are game emulators etc.

People are even getting it to run Linux:-

                                http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/62041396/linux-here-we-come

Not that I can see much point to doing this as there is still a long way to go regarding driver support.

Now there is no doubt that the N95 is a great handset, but what did Nokia do?

They became complacent and the iPhone a phone with lower specs came out of nowhere and stamped into their territory.

How did they respond, with the release of the N96 which shows just how complacent they had become.

At this point in time why would a current N95 owner buy an N96 especially given that the N97 (and the 5800 to a lesser extent) is just around the corner, Nokia has been caught out and now it's own products are competing against each other in order to retain it's customers, this to me speaks of a panicking reactionary approach.

In the meantime Samsung entered the arena in a big way with the i8510 and is also taking on HTC with the Omnia.

                                Interesting times ahead.

LouisLoh, 05 Dec 2008Just shut up and see if in Q4 Apple can sell even half the ... moreThe reason why the N95 sold more than the iphone, is simply because Nokia still has more followers than the iphone, has a wider span of customers, and its features are more of what people have been accustomed to. The Apple Iphone is only over 2 yrs old, compared to Nokia phones that has been around for over 2 decades now. Also, although the iphone's UI and OS outperforms Nokia's Symbian OS, the iphone's specs are limited to cater more to a selected group of users, compared to Nokia's more global offerings of its functionalities. Apple has a different vision of what the iphone should be like. They have a more conservative, walled and protected approach, while Nokia simply just wants to make feature packed phones and sell them out to the public, and you're kinda on your own afterwards. Both approach have advantages and disadvantages. If you live in a community that is highly regulated and highly systematic, Apple's approach would be the more beneficial one. While if you live in a community that is less regulated and less systematic, Nokia phones would be more ideal for you and you will feel restricted with the iphone.

Let's put it this way. With the iphone, you sacrifice a bit of your freedom. In exchange, you get very good products of consistent high quality, backed and protected by Apple's warranty so you will not feel left out in the dark in case something goes wrong with those products you LEGALLY purchased. While with the N95, you get almost every possible spanking feature available out there and all the freedom to do whatever you want to do with it, BUT, at the expense of getting compromising products of compromising quality and of compromising security. Leaving you solely responsible and liable to whatever unfavorable, risky or disastrous outcomes that could possibly happen with your phone. Leaving you with no warranty or protection from Nokia whatsoever for they cannot be held responsible for you screwing up your phone because you wanted to be adventurous =)

                                  It's your choice =)

                                    second is HTC Touch Pro.
& now Touch HD is available for $800.

Some readers here, not necessarily Americans, have a lot to thank the US for. If you take pride in your civilization and technology, then good for you. Maybe you should reach out more to other countries and help them prosper as well instead of looking down on them. I don't know what you mean when you brought up the map thing, but I know a lot of Americans who are very educated and intelligent. But by the way you write, I guess you think that you are smarter than any Americans.
