AT&T to ditch WinMo over Symbian, iPhone may stay

05 Dec, 2008
It turns out that these days WinMo is not in its best shape. AT&T have just announced their plans to limit the smartphones in their portfolio to only one OS. They`ll have to choose one of the now existing platforms...

This post/news story is HIGHLY MISLEADING. AT&T is *not* ditching Windows Mobile over its entire portfolio; it is planning to ditch Windows Mobile for *AT&T-branded phones*.

OEM-branded phones available on AT&T, such as those from LG, Motorola, Nokia, etc. will continue to have a variety of OSes (although if this happens you might expect AT&T to increase its percentage of Symbian phones even there, but it won't go to 100%). The most affected manufacturer here is likely to be HTC, but they could still sell their phones on the network - just not branded as AT&T...

Now we Know, speed is not the processor, but how fast you can use the feature on the device and how easy. Winmo, doing an SMS is subject to chinese Torture, not so Apple and Symbian. Searching for Aps on the device and using it, again is long and drawn out, not so Apple and Symbian.
That's the name of the game, not processor speed nor camera, nor whatever.
Poor Winmo devices, good form factor, but when u use Winmo, it counts for nothing.

I have to agre with most of the comments, symbian is great for multimedia and daily use but winmo just keeps the 1st place as the one with more power... I believe that probably linux will be the biggest menace to winmo in some couple of years

Maybe WinMo 7 will be based on this line Vista>XP>Win2k>NT.

btw Symbian market share just dropped below 50% for the first time in many years.

The one's who put them there OSX and RIM.

I believe HTC was the main reason why WinMo is now is a shape like this. The high end phones that HTC put out there couldnt support the conventional speed of WinMo. In human terms thats like installing Windows Millenium on ASUS computers.

AT&T's choice how can affect on Winmo? Microsoft is more powerful and put WinMo on top, look like all the things are in it's business. Windows is better than any OS I used.

Symbain seems less like a business phone and more like a multimedia phone. symbian leave to the big boys like microsoft and blackberry to make nice business phones. Symbian is worse than android in my opinon. Symbain is made more toward just regular phone users not business users. Windows mobile would be the best choice and then android following that with symbian last. sorry symbian but i had to pick one you wouldn't be it.
