I thinks it makes sense,
not only dus it mean your package is smaller:
-it also means the buyers can make a more eco aware choise,
-You don't need to buy an other charge, thus less procution of the chargers (nokia) and less recycling or waste (consumer)
-the buyers also donates a small amout to wwf.
Plus, by buying an "different" n79 you can make a (rather small)statement. It would be better if Nokia (or any company for all that mathers) added a sollar-cell-cover of some kind. THAT would def. make a statement and a difference.
It's not like I'm an environmental guy, or something, but it's a good thing people are aware of making a change by doing small things.
I don't think it's half that bad!

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2009Now if only the boffins at Nokia could figure out that USB ... moreThis is very true... I've got a couple of Samsungs at home, and especially when you thether it to a laptop or something to use the internet via the handset it's fantastic how the Samsung recharges as you use it.
With a nokia if you don't have the charger (in addition to the USB cable) plugged in while your doing the same thing you'll go flat in a couple of hours!

NTT DoCoMo have been doing this for a couple of years.
In fact, in Japan all NTT Docomo phones with exception of a few foreign models use the SAME CHARGER, and SAME HEADSET CONNECTOR.
Most phones come without a charger as people don't need them. They have owned a mobile phone before and re-use the old charger.
It's a cost-saving initiative for the company, not so much for the environment!

What would be cool is if they included two batteries, a windup charger and solar panel battery charger with your phone. Instead of a charger!
Leave the solar panel to charge the second battery during the day while you use the first, if you need to top it up then use the windup charger!

Slick, 16 Jan 2009Hey DeJust Bro, long time homie! looks like N79 is a big fa... moreYeah Slick bro, I'm still alive and kicking. I was just carried away by the holidays 'cause you know we party a lot and as a DJ with my own sound system I was always hired out. It's how we enjoy summer here in South Africa, companies close in December and people have a lot of money to spend, braais (Barbeques) , bashes, festivals all the way. It was so damn hectic. BTW as you know I'm a fan to many manufacturers and not just one particular brand, I can see a lot of flaws or innovations in any of them, that's why I'm so freaked out with this Eco thing. I want to own 3 or 4 different phones (brands) at once this year, including Nokia though.
Later Homies.

Take out the charger, use smaller boxes to save on transport cost and keep the phone the same price....??? and we call it "ECO PACK".....??? Sounds like very clever marketing to make more money....???But that's just my humble opinion NOKIA

Now if only the boffins at Nokia could figure out that USB IS A POWER SOURCE, they could almost do away with chargers altogether.
They could also take a leaf out of Motorola's book and make some phone's out of recycled PET.

Also its an eco friendly edition and not a trend. not that all nokia fones hence forth will come with no chargers. Its totally upto u guys whether u want it or not.
so stop all those sucky comments "what shud we do without a charger" and stuff. its for those who want to contribute for the nature.
if u want a charger, buy the normal n79. i wud hv bought one(given that i have 2 chargers already at home). but im going for the 5800.:D

Guys, people at nokia have always tried to do ecofriendly stuff. Remember their recycling thing. They are at the number one spot in some Green list or something(i dont remember the name). i think we should appreciate their effort as much as we bash them.
Although a few euros less wouldnt have been bad.:)
