21 Jan, 2009
The end of 2008 saw a major shift in the global GSM market. The Korean manufacturer LG managed to go ahead of both Sony Ericsson and Motorola and secured a third position globally in terms of sold...

    The truth behind the SE………………………

Nokia, LG and Samsung unit prices are lover than SE. SE Q4 2008 unit price is 129$. The almost phones sold by Nokia, Samsung and LG are around 50-100$.

Forms the beginning to now I’m only using SE. SE phones are that much of good and great designs.

Don’t believe third party articles like these.

I’ll wait for IDE or ABI research report.

    No other designs like SE
No other picture quality like SE
No other sound quality like SE
Highest Unit price valued mobile maker
No third class phones from SE

I still believe SE and upcoming models like Hikaru & Kokura.

    SE Rocks!

nokia sold more phones because they keep on coming with low end mobile phones...they should not only counting on how many units they sold, but rather the profit they come up with...just my two cents...x0

Reality Check, 21 Jan 2009Should the lousy 4th & 5th manufacturers stop whatever they... moreWhy should people's choice be limited? If you simply want to kill all others not in the top 5, there would be no iphone or HTC, which would not "force" the almighty brand(s) to offer more touchscreen handsets...

Would be extremely terrible if the world only gets Toyota Ford and GM cars. (Yes, I'm a Honda fan)

Erick , 21 Jan 2009The market presents challenges for all the manufacturers. O... moreWhen these people only count on "sales volume", focusing on mid/low end handsets would get the companies to the top easily.

Think about the almighty powerful HTC with Smartphones only, when will it ever get to the top 5? Would your parents / grandparents ever use one? Or would you like to see your kids carrying a US$400 "minicomputer" around...just so they can lose them (or be stolen in some places) easily?

It is really quite logical. The phone type that sold the most in 2008 was the touchscreen typpe Apple had 2, Lg had many, Samsung had many, Nokia had only 1 SEhad only 1 the math is quite simple. Nokia were able to stay ahead due to brand loyalty and phones like n95 8gb, n78, n96 which were high end all in one devices

Phone Addict, 21 Jan 2009Oh and another reason LG, Nokia, and Samsung are at the top... moreI think the success of some of these companies come from the fact they heavily subsidize network service providers to offer "$0" handsets with service.

My other guess is they probably also pay more commission to the front line sales, so the sales help to "promote" their handsets.

Plus, these days where people usually change handsets every 6 months (if not less), quality doesn't mean much anymore...people buy the (bad) phones, don't like them, then simply resell them.

But the sales $ and volume already count into the initial sales.

im nt at all surprised by the fact that samsung and lg are making drastic improvement in selling their mobile phones. manufacturers frm Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia & China will surprise us more in future i believe cos dy got cheap labor advantage & tech knowledge as well. initially dy wont be able to take da top spot bt gradually dy will outperform nokia, se, moto n odas. i tnk companies wont only focus on boostin sellin units rather dy will incline more to earnin profits by reducin costs n sellin mid-end & high-end phones. i believe se has got more revolutionary phones 2 offer in da future if dy really invest heavily since i've got serious respect 4 Sony as da champion in electronics. so as lng se is ther in da mkt we da customers can only be benefited as da competition will be fierce n nokia, samsung, moto n lg hav 2 offer better phones 4 us. thus i pray se stays in da mkt 4 many yrs 2 com changin deir mktin n strategic policies wid ericsson. tnx.

grimjow, 21 Jan 2009Where is iPhone? I bet they only sold about 2 million units... moreApple only has 1 phone, and that is the iphone, and it is a smartphone. LG, Nokia and Samsung are selling different kinds of phones, so it would not make sense for you to compare iphone sales versus total sales of all phones from LG, Samsung and Nokia. But for sure, iphone sold the most, if not one of the most sold smartphones.
