Marc Aurel, 03 Jan 2014Unlike what most people here seem to think, hardware specs ... moreAnd they think they're Apple, charging an arm and a leg for their phones.

How is this phone going to compete with the likes of Samsung S5 or the next Iphone. This is really bad from HTC. They really need to up their game. They cannot be doing the same phone again with the same spec just a little slimmer, that will not increase sale or market share. I am very disappointed if they go for 2gb RAM and 4Ultra Prixels camera

Unlike what most people here seem to think, hardware specs are not what sells most of these flagship phones. It's brand recognition, which will also largely decide what carriers offer in their own stores (except in the US where it's more complicated, but brand certainly plays a role there as well).
Currently Samsung is the number one Android brand in most countries, whereas HTC has a serious brand problem in many countries. Partially this goes back all the way to the fact that HTC never made feature phones, and neither is it a well-known household electronics maker like Sony or to a lesser extent, LG. When going against Samsung, HTC will lose most of the time purely on brand. Those who want to be "different" but still want an Android phone will get a Sony or LG instead, again based on brand recognition. Production problems on top of that are of course very bad as well, since they will lower sales even further and cause further PR problems, but the basic problem of HTC globally is that people do not know them well enough.

AnonD-192549, 03 Jan 2014What are people always complaining about the camera?? I pr... morei'm a student too. My friend own HTC One and i can tell you even the iPad Mini is on par with One. That's not good. Thats horrible. If your previous phone is something 5mp-ish than you'll probably see it as good. But people with 8mp^ phone (i had S3) will find it horrible. Yes night it's pretty good but man even L925 is better.

AnonD-120291, 03 Jan 2014uninspiring indeed, the htc one may have sold fairly well b... moreI have been using HTC One for 11months it works seamlessly and my brother's s4 had many problems and he sold it back to buy iPhone 5s. Stop talking nonsense about HTC One especially without using it for a long time. we all know HTC has one problem which is in their marketing department other than that leave HTC alone because it's doing a job well done. Many people are starting to complain about note 3 but you guess are silence about it. I'm working with phones 24/7

mir, 03 Jan 2014Just make it as smooth as the HTC One. snapdragon 800 is al... moreYeah dude snapdragon 800 has a lot more raw power than a7 and more than enough to run all games of play store. But benchmark race is getting too intense, hence the cpu are getting powerful. cross platform benchmarking is totally fake its unfair since ios and android are way different.

HTC shall release the M8 simultaneously in 2 versions , a single SIM GSM and dual (hybrid CDMA/GSM)which is rare in highend but not so in mid to low market. I think they can use the same case but with 2 different blacks, plain metals like aluminium or titanium color, They can reduce the development and production cost significantly. Just learn from the past by not producing too much models and please let the OEM mentality and mass market approach as far as possible behind. Love always HTCs build quality IMO targeting mid to highend market is more appropriate. Goodluck !

Nick, 03 Jan 2014Most of next years phones that cost under $300 will be bett... moreN5 costs more then 300,-
The One still has some advantages over the N5:
- More natural color rendering(not washed out)
- Much better viewing angles
- Longer battery life
- A LOT better speakers
- Dedicated audio chip, usefull for headphones
- Design
- Build quality
- 32gb default, with 64gb options
- ...
and nexus lineup is always an exception, you wont see phones with these specs of the N5 for 300 next year.

uninspiring indeed, the htc one may have sold fairly well but this is not even really considered an upgrade, from early specs and pics it could easily be the htc 1.5, htc really need to up their game and bring something awesome to the table if they are to get out of trouble, htc one was a good model but it was also flawed in to many ways to ever be a hit, they need to pull out all the stops to help them keep afloat this year, all the other manufacturers will be bringing all the latest bells and whistles and chipsets to the table and htc cannot be seen to be left behind or thats exactly where they will end up.

What are people always complaining about the camera??
I prefer to ALWAYS have acceptable shots (at day, night, inside, etc) rather than having very good shots at day but useless ones at night.
Ever saw a video at a concert from a htc one versus any other 13mp camera in a smartphone? Here is were it outclasses all other android phones. And although daylight pics are not so good as other flagships phones, they are still great (which cant be said of lowlight from the others)
If sensors would capture light perfectly, we wouldnt even need 4mp, since thats already somewhere between 1080p and 4k resolution.
Also i like that the one takes 16:9 shots NATIVELY
I would still prefer this camera over any current android phone, since this is the true allrounder
But hey I am a student, so i guess nightlife is overrated compared to others.

I really hope they will not limit us again with ultrapixel 4 to 6mp but use a normal camera like G2 with 13+ mp

Like some other wise comments HTC One doesn't need zillion cores because software runs smooth. It's all about optimization. Have my ONE and it works like a charm!

only samsung really needs 3GB of RAM, with its touchwiz full of gimmicks.
and not to mention Android 4.4 should reduce RAM usage.
there is no point to increase RAM with current condition.
the only problems remain in CPU and that Ultrapixel camera.
even N5 has 2GB of RAM.
