17 Feb, 2009
As you probably already know, Nokia N86 leaked yesterday, but today it makes the news all official. Named Nokia N86 8MP, it's got the first 28mm wide angle lens on a mobile phone. There's also a kickstand...

I think that is amazing de capability of Nokia! I never be dissapointed with his skills, but, this model revealed that nokia need a new design director, because this is a really dangerous bet to the retro forms...

no offence.. but I don't think Nokia did the GPS in a phone first... probably done somewhere in Asia before... and like the BVD-T tuner, thats not very original. Its just cell phone companeis are not very innovative themselve. The whole business model is based on modifiying or stealing patents and copying other manufacterers, that the business.

So stop complaining, and being fanboys and see what the n86 really is. Wait for a good review then be judgemental. Just on the surface, I personally don't like the style, I'll stick to my Sharp for now.

Anonymous, 20 Feb 2009uhh...dude smartphone=multimedia lol you know you may call ... moreSet the standards nowadays....I wonder why it took the almighty brand over 4 years to develop its first touchscreen 3G phone...when competition first made one over 4 years ago...

I'm totally confused right now, one person commented here the almighty brand doesn't care about what its customers want....at the same time, after 4+ years of ignorance of the touchscreen market, with the success of iphone, all of the sudden the almighty brand started to release all these touchscreen handsets.

Then someone else said the almighty brand makes a phone for everyone. If so, where is its slim flip phone after N76?

i think samsung and lg is coming out with all those new phones is just stupid...they're just saturating market with second rate touchscreen/smartphones..nokia started the built-in gps chip and everyone else follows...just like the iphone touchscreen...if samsung and lg are really innovative they should come up with something...on their own!

Yes, even if I'm a Nokia hardcore fan, I think Nokia is lagging behind with other competitors.

The best phones they came up this past 3 years were the N95 and the 5800 XpressMusic. All the others were simply stripped-down or slightly upgraded versions of the N95.

This is bad news for the people who bought a new Nokia E75.

b-man, 19 Feb 2009and with regards to the heat theory..im talking about the c... moreSo now the overheat issue is regarding continous charging....I wonder if the quality of the almighty brand's phones were designed to the point where the LCD gets burnt easily, so people would have to buy another unit?

One of my oldest phone (that is still being used occasionally) is over 4 years old. I charged the battery overnight for about 2 years before the battery died. (I do wonder how many other battery doesn't die after 2 years of usage)

The phone is made with steel casing but never had a single issue with the LCD being burned. Of course the phone is NOT made by the almighty brand.

Since you're the expert, if not the professor in the subject matter, can you help me to understand?

PS. I can't perform the lab test you mentioned, as I don't have the equipment to have a phone be exposed to direct sunlight continously for weeks...(sun goes down everyday on most parts of the world...and in parts of the world where sun doesn't go down everyday, overheat probably isn't an issue)

b-man, 19 Feb 2009reapeting the model number makes people remember it easily.... moreCall me naive, on one hand you say reusing old model numbers is a good thing as it simplifies everything....if so, why are we seeing "new model numbers" from the same company with its 5xxx / E / N / 88xx series?

I just don't see how things are being "simplified", given what I observed at the phone shop. Apparently the phone user and salesperson were confused on what one wanted and one offered.

Of course, if what you mentioned in your other article is correct, the almighty brand doesn't exist to serve its customers, which certainly aligns with the repeating model number theory...I wonder if the almighty brand would ever make the following statement:

"We don't care about our customers"

"We will only make one model number to keep things simple..." (and each phone would have suffix from a to z...if not aa, bb, cc,

Yeah, let's go back to the beginning like 8110...8110a, 8110b, 8110c...

b-man, 19 Feb 2009judging from your examples(1100 and 1108)i think thats the ... moreI can only afford to buy 1100 & 1108, em...I just counted the number of phones I bought in the past 14 months: 12 units with a total of US$3200, with most expensive being around US$400 (for 2 units) and average of about US$260...of course none of them being related to the almighty company.

So if the almighty company doesn't care about its customer, why does it have "customer service" center?

If a company doesn't exist to serve its customer, I wonder why / how customers would continue to give business to such company...

Ugly design as n85, n81, and n96. they keep repeating it over and over again. Same with the menu system, nokia never change it since 2002. also with the camere, nokia has to barrow optics to carl zeiss to improve the image quality. that's cheating!

today I saw at WMC the Nokia N86 and SE W995, both new 8MP flagships, and no question Nokia just another fat brick and feels cheap, wheras W995 is premium. i mean sorry, Nokia you should stay with low-end phones and maybe try smart phone, but stay away from multimedia. Those here cheering for Nokia, check the handset yourself first!!
