I'm more than happy with my snappy moto G and nexu... moreI didn't want to reply to previous A7 news (months ago) about the 64-bit architecture used in the newest iPhone when visitors bashed it that 64-bit is only gimmick, because I wasn't sure what benefits and if any 64-bit CPUs actually bring.
They concluded that 64-bit is only useful for more RAM and iPhone is only using 1GB therefore for them this is only a gimmick.
This is NOT entirely true.
With 64-bit you do gain some speed.
In desktop world when there was major movement from 32-bit to 64-bit CPUs there were tests that suggested a 30% increase in speed on SAME 32-bit software.
Guess this is true in mobile world also according to this article:
... Even existing 32-bit code will run more efficiently on [ARM's 64-bit] v8-A architecture than on native 32-bit ARM architecture" he added.
"TheMentalist" and all others that still see no point in 64-bit should re-read the article again!

"I still find that there are almost no applications on iOS that really take advantage of the CPU power underneath the hood. More than anything Apple needs first party software that really demonstrates what's possible."
That's what StraightEdgeNexus meant by having said that it's just a "gimmick"... It's not the harshest criticism by any means. He was merely being blunt on the matter of A7's timing vs. available apps.
On aspects such as better execution or batt life again it was that matter of market timing. Last I checked the iPhone 5S didn't really halt all of its 32 bit competing models to a grind if at all.
And most level headed observers and Android users such as myself never said that Apple shouldn't get the credit. It's just that it's ARM who deserves more for thinking up ARMv8's instruction set, without which there's no way in hell A7/Cyclone could have came into fruition.

And whats the use of 'desktop class' performance when that iphone is not even half productive of androids' functionality leave alone desktop. Feeling Sorry for your useless long post.

The A7 chip has been analysed by AnandTech and they conclude that the A7 chip is desktop class, closer in nature to Intel's big core chips rather than a mobile class chip.

What makes a difference is energy efficency is miniturisation in production (the nanometer figure).
64 bit is nothing new, intel and AMD has bee doing that for years.
The main advantage with 64 bit architecture and software is that you can use more RAM. And we still have not reached that critical point in mobiles, where they need that much RAM.

welcome to the new phones that lag, consume more power and ram (and will be several times without any)!
instead of making more useful phones, they're still trying to make hardware war, even if the phones are highly advanced already.

Gotta hand it to Apple. They started another hardware revolution. The A7 is at least eighteen months ahead of its rivals.

64-Bit is always intesting toward energy consumtion. therefor it could be the biggest evolution in the Smartphone market if every phone would run a 64Bit chipset.
