Anonymous, 03 Sep 2014Lol the 801 is already dated right now. Good job Sony.Actually, any tech once released is dated! The only tech that is not dated is that not released yet! Your point is what exactly?

There is no need to upgrade your Z2 to Z3. Unless you have older generation phone, then you can upgrade to Z3.

Can you name one? And please be careful, you've embarrassed yourself once already by saying the Sony 3d headset is a VR headset. :)

The one you call a "personal 3D oculus" that Sony produced years ago is NOT a VR headset! It's just a 3D viewing headset like a 3D glasses but with a display built in it. While this Samsung Gear VR and the Note 4 combined is the real and the most advanced VR experience you can get right now, like the Occulus Rift but unlike the Occulus, it's totally MOBILE! Now that is INNOVATION!
I bet you're not feeling so smart right now, are you?

Samsung is not as... moreWait and see what happens with the 805.I think Sony's strategy is to be able to supply globally in September without hardware shortages. The 805 is capable of higher camera standards and the Z4 (only 6mo away) should be amazing. Definitely looking at the Z3 tab for Xmas, if they can supply everywhere this month definitely a win!

that VR thing is cool but is hardly new...
and NOT a REAL VR tech...

Sony produced a third generation of these "personal 3D oculus"

                      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThRVZMRQNKc

You know you can plug them into an Xperia phone by an adapter and play games by additional dualshock controller?
And that ability is awailable almost 2 years now?
furthermore on Z3 you can now play even PS4 games...

No, although a cool feature Note 4 only catched up to Sony, and made it exclusive only to Note4, why not note 3?
Shame on you samsung, shame on you...

Quick note for the randoms that can't figure why Z3 didn't get S805.The reason is simple - 805 costs almost twice as much as 801 + it's more power hungry, not to mention that including 805 may need pcb and chassis redesign.

The only thing they are to blame for is the no QHD screen, but 1080p is quite relevant yet.

Anonym, 03 Sep 2014Maybe you should realize that Sony is the one releasing a n... moreIf you'd re-read what I said, you'd notice that I never said Sony didn't release a new phone every 6 months. The thing I was implying is that they don't FORCE you to feel like you're obliged to buy the next top phone they have like every other company does. Not in any way do they make the previously top-phone you have now seem like garbage compared to the new one, or to the other companies new phones.

Their phones are seriously insanely durable, and it's a miracle how mine hasn't fallen apart 4 months ago, seeing as I slipped down a staircase, threw the phone down with me in momentum, broke an arm, and the phone remained in tact, without a single scratch. And as for software, I haven't noticed any major lag since I had it, and even minor, tiny bits of lag are rare.

I'd rather go buy a phone that I know I can rely on than on a phone I know I'll want to replace within a year. In the end, all of the better hardware can be considered bad if after 3 months of usage, an older, technically worse (on paper) one can do the job better.

I don't know... I don't really see why would I (for example) leave my Z2 and buy Z3? Only because of the rounded corners? No. Nothing new, it's another Z2. :) And by the way: Z2 looks better than this one. :)

Anonymous, 03 Sep 2014All of you people going insane with the "No snap 805&q... moreMaybe you should realize that Sony is the one releasing a new flagship every 6 months (or less), not the "others" you refer to.

While you are at it, maybe you should ask yourself "why release a phone every 6 months (or less)?"
The top (and perhaps only) reason to do so is to remain at the "tip-top" in the arena. That is exactly where Sony just failed by not including the latest SoC.

Downgrading the specs for the "Compact" version is just another nail in the coffin of what should be "a rival every 6 months".

Enjoy your "fine" products that only have a shelf life of 6 months at full value, go and see how much value the Z series loses in the second hand market compared to (let's say) an iPhone of the same period.

The problem with these phones is there is no WOW factor. Yes they are water proof and with the latest chipset but they dont have a certain 'Je ne se quoi' that makes them stand out like the Nokia N9 did back in the day or like the original iphone.
