NFC on the iPhone 6 only works with Apple Pay

16 September, 2014
However, Apple could decide to open up the NFC capabilities to developers later on.

damn that sucks, as oyster in london is going to let people use their phones instead of the cards, apple would be stupid to let transport payments slip past.

icemaster86, 16 Sep 2014I think everyone knows by now that Apple only adds somethin... moreHow much more of an iSheep can you be? NFC has been around for almost a decade now. Apple brings such capabilities last and sweat-broken in the game and then locks it up around their service and instead of critising you still defend their practices. Let me know if you decide to sell your company stocks.

Ah another one of Apple's useless things. Being standard will kill them, HTC One. Still in love with this phone.
Plus the only product I'd ever buy from Apple- iPod touch 5 (Black and Slate)

I think everyone knows by now that Apple only adds something to their devices once the technology is good enough and the demand is there.

They never added NFC before as there was no universal tech, now its widely used and in devices they have added it. Plus they wanted to do it their way and to make it a benefit. Most think its a gimmick, but it really isn't.

When the extra's are required, researched and to a high standard they will add them. They always have with their software and devices.

"Just why Apple chose not to include that at launch is anyone's guess."

The same reason why Apple's bluetooth does not allow file sharing.

Whenever Apple talks about third-party, they mean only those "third-party" apps, software, functionality etc. that are (or will be) Apple-approved.

They limit their ecosystem and its functionality in an effort to provide only trusted, reliable and secure sources.

That's why Apple devices do not "communicate" to every other gadget available on the market worldwide with an NFC or bluetooth sharing capabilities.

This can either be a pro or con for the individual buyer depending on his/her needs.

AnonD-270318, 16 Sep 2014idk what does this NFC thing but anyway...NFC allows you to read NFC tags. Its easier to describe the applications, such as Windows phones tap them together to share photo's etc (but as you can't transfer things over bluetooth for IOS is pointless).

Other things are the NFC tags can store information, to open an app, pair bluetooth devices etc.

The question really is - how does ApplePay work? If I can still link any of my Credit Cards or debit accounts in it, than what's the big complaint?

Currently in Australia, only CommBank and Westpac offer NFC payments via the GS4, or GS4/5 and Note 3 respectively - which is a pretty closed loop if you ask me.

I don't care which app I use, as long as I can use NFC to make payments.

I'm a Windows Phone User, my phone has had NFC connectivity for over a year. I used it once, and that was just a test to see if it worked. It did. I haven't used it since, it's not a big deal.
