17 September, 2014
The losses are expected to quadruple due to the low sales performance of the company's mid-range phones.

I'm sure they'd be doing better if they updated their phones

good new, hope sony finally learns the mistakes.

sony releases so much much differents models of low and mid smartphones and don't update more half of them that's why me and others people won't buy them and then still stuck on old android. and releasing top devices every 6 months is worst idea, people won't buy z or z2 for waiting z3, and when z3 is out, they are afraid of z4 coming soon and don't buy.

and I already seen sony devices being overpriced than competitors, weak specs and higher price long time.

even I could make better marketing, bye bye sony.

        This is good news.

Xperia been my most trusted Android phones, i had many and they all behaved nicely and stable, but i can no longer vouch for them. Around the web you find a lot of angry Xperia users due to the intrusive bloat app Whats New that cannot be disabled without voiding your warranty, that is a very good reason to not buy an Xperia phone.

Also, i dont understand their reasoning for the models they launch, wtf was M2, what IS that thing? Or T3, how does that fit into the model lineup at all? The selfie phone C3, ok so it was aimed at Asia but its so big that it doesnt fit into most peoples monopods. And looking back, Z1, worst phone ever, and Z Ultra, what an epic fail to not give it an LED flash, how could Sony be that stupid???

Sony cannot complain about bad midrange sales when their midrange makes no sense, if they choose to offer uninspiring models then they must expect uninspiring sales.

This post was approved by me, many years Xperia user signing out. Also chose Xbox One over PS4 (why the F does PS4 need a motion controller in addition to the camera to work well???), and the Full HD Sony Bravia TV we had decided to get for the Xbox is being swapped for a Sharp.

By the way, i bet this will not make it into the Whats New or Xperia Lounge apps ahahah.

Clearly Sony have not kept a tight on R&D in the inclusion of the features it camera, games, waterproofing.

The result is the Z range and the compact range with its smaller size but premium specs are well above Samsung and LG Mini

The deal breaker is the non user changeable battery, having never owned a phone with a "fixed in" battery, for me there is no upside inn changing,

Waterproofing and battery access is possible as Samsung have shown, the 20Mp camera on Sony is 4Mp above Samsungs 16Mp

It is a normal situation because both appearance and user interface of sony phones are poor.

Bring down your pricing at least to Motorola's level. Then only you will recover.

Same goes with Samsung , HTC, and LG as well..

they've just released the Z2 earlier this year and now hoping the Z3 would be selling it like hot cakes. Good job. Keep hoping.

No surprises. They're good devices, but there's no marketing whatsoever in USA. Sales are pretty much restricted to geeks like me that know Sony still exists in the smartphone market, thanks to websites like this.

I'm into Windows phone, but I do have Z2 tablet at home. It's pretty good.

kroomya, 17 Sep 2014It's a sad day for Sony and Sony fans out there. It's not a... moreU are wrong. Its actually the fault of SONY.First promising Kitkat update for Xperia SP and then leaving it with just one laggy 4.3 update.Updating Xperia L with a old 4.2.2 update and dropping its software support there with no further updates.Dropping support for Xperia M which has not even crossed one year.SONY thinks that customers are fools. Why should we buy the products of a company whose key rule is "Purchase our phones and we may not update it"/:/ SONY suckss!

In my country Sony smarphones are more expensive than Samsung smartphones for Xperia Z2 is more expensive than Galaxy S5. Pricing is the main reason of Sony's loss.

Sony should just STOP mid range phones and concentrate on giving long term supper to their 6 month flagships. The Z1 can now be their lower mid-range phone and the Z2 the upper mid range. Soon by next year Z can be their upper low range too. They could release one or two variants Max for low range in certain countries until Z falls to that category. IT should focus on 'long term' support for all their flagships.

Top tips for Sony and misc acknowledgments:

                                      - *IF* you are releasing a new flagship every 6 months then make damn sure you will be the indisputable top-dog in specs.

                                      - Value perception isn't just during the "first purchase". Although you don't profit in any way from the 2nd-hand market, if your phones are undervalued there then you'll have an hard time convincing 1st purchasers yours is a good value proposition. -- Having your 6mo old flagship being sold (new) at a hard discount price only adds insult to injury.

                                      - When you have admitted issues with a certain model in a certain market (self-cracking glass panels in the Z series on the UK) don't play dumb and dismissive when a new prospective buyer calls/writes you about your regional policies should this matter happen.

                                      ACKNOWLEDGMENT
                                      - Job well done in the AOSP front, good hirings and it's very nice to have a new batch of supported devices on Cyanogenmod.

                                      - Not so good: You really need to take better advantage of this and advertise it as "semi-official" support for devices which are no longer supported with your Android skin/features. IT WOULD FULLY TURN THE TABLE IN YOUR FAVOR -- remember those devices are already past-warranty or very near of being past-warranty, so the monetary risk of paying for user mistakes due to this is quite low.

not so strange they are worst in making phones with so much deadspace.. the displays are a joke compared to samsungs and the cameras are poor too.. no wonder they have so big loss..
