Sony foresees $1.2 billion loss from its smartphone business

Stuck with this buggy update on my xperia SP.
I’m damn sure that I will never buy any Sony product and will never recommend it to my friends/colleagues. Was using Neo V and made a big mistake by upgrading to this phone. Well Chinese phone makers are far better than Sony in all aspects (value and promise)
As promised Sony has not provided the kitkat update and has withdrawn the plans to do so.
Few of the problems that I have noticed.
• Touch screen struggles to recognize touch when phone’s charging
• So called walkman does not play WMA media , shows up all the audio files in a single page (no folder wise selection , I got a 32GB card installed)
• Sometimes the phone thinks that earphones are still connected and the earphone icon does not appear in the status bar
• Camera fails to save the previous shooting mode (reverts to stupid superior mode though the earlier selection was manual)
• Too many bloat ware and unnecessary RAM consumption
• Only 839 MB of RAM available for usage
• Ringtone assigned to a contact defaults back after few days (Just don’t know why)
• New 3.5mm jack standard, unable to use few of my old earphones
• And finally now no Kitkat update , Please don’t fool customers by making fake promises

My Xperia M2 can't connect to wifi :-( dont know why after i updated my phone to kitkat... Sony Team pls fix this problem immediately... My model is D2305... M2 3g single... And I have 1question why i moved my game to SD card but only a little mb moved on sd card???they are still have a large files still on internal memory but the file move to sd card only a little...pls fix this...

Sony manufacturers great phones, always loved the design's of Sony's, I have always purchased Sony phones, even through it was known as Ericsson back then, they bought memories after Nokia.
Then Samsung was no where, even the Motorola StarTac failed. What always dominated the Market was Ericsson and Nokia, I had the Ericsson T10, T20, T28, and now I have a T39. These phones had a wap browser and the design was flawless and the battery wouldn't die for a couple of days.
Sony can be revolutionary if only they changed there design and perhaps provide higher upgrades like a 2K screen, or an 805 Snapdragon, they should have changed the design of the Z3 at least, and below all make sure you price your phones below so people can actually afford them.

Customer expects at least 2 years software support/updates for low/mid/high end phone. Any company, Shamesung/Sony/... which fails to fulfill this will face the same problem. Don't expect customers to purchase new handset every 6 months just for new software. Of course, the price should be reasonable. Don't charge $500 for for $200 phone. Or else, time to say goodbye...

Look sony i love your products and i think you guys make the best phones in the industry, but there is just one f****00000k up you guys dont seem to correct. YOUR DEVICES LOOK BORINGGGGG!!!, at least to the average joe. U guys alway make square angled edge devices without suttle rounded edges and that make ur phones look like BRICKS. Take apple for instants they make rounded edged devices AND THEY SALE ALOT OF THEM, even your latest vaio fit e laptops LOOKED BEAUTIFULLLLLL than the high end once. So pleased make rounded edge device just like apple iphone 5 and watch ur money grow. And one more thing try using a LOGO instead of the oldscool Sony name and switch to using full anodised Aluminium completely on ur phones just like the vaio fit 15 instead of glass with aluminium frame thats outdated iphone 4 style

They advertisements are very bad
They can boos their sell by improving the ads

Bashing Sony without their device is kind of ackward. as far as i know samsung has too many ads just to buy their device same with apple. so people who have no idea about spec & features would choose the samsung coz of popularity.

For me the reason of loss might be lack of advertisement, here in our country, we havent see nor hear any ads from sony device. unlike samsung & apple that has ads every quarter about their new device. except to those techy people who really know what sony has. (like me). i hope sony will do something about investing money for ads.

Like Nokia, Sony are no match for Samsung. At least they are smart enough to retreat from the smartphone market before they get completely crushed. Watch out, Sony. Don't mess with the boss. ;)

I just hope this won't force them 2 start makin inferior products, come 2 think of it, most of these loses are mainly production cost( both material & time) that doesn't correspond 2 their sales. And since laws of demands and supply is always applied in business such as this it means that they'll have 2 do a little sacrifice, possibily maintainin their quality but reducin the price on their products for a short while just to earn popularity, kind of promo, after which they go back 2 their initial pricin system. And again they should dismiss this idea of two flagship in one year. I don't think is doin doin them any good.

Sony Mid range handsets are not so good lagging in many things old Android version low batteries timing non removable old technology as compare to the Rivals premium prices with lower specification when compared to Rivals , Low memories issue. Sony are not working for customer they are only thinking for their money introducing smart phone every after 6 months which is the main hurdle for their their growth . Sony should introduced Mid rang mobile sets with better specification with new Designe with enough memory must 8 GB not 4GB. Then they will beat their Rivals.

Really shocked to hear this from sony. I love sony products. I prefer sony products due to their quality. 2013 was an excellent year for sony specially in mid-range segment in india. But 2014 OMG what happend sony really really i can't understand. 2013 sony released 1 model - E(under 10k), 1 model- M(under 15k), 1 model - L(under 20k), 1 model - Sp(under 25k) and other flapship models. So people have options to pick based on the affordability. 2014 - 1 model - E1(under 10k), 1 model - E3(under 15k, very late), 4 models - M2, T2 ultra, T3, C3(under 25k)... This really explains why sony didn't succeed. They expect non-supported 2013 model to sell under 20k range. Also, this year device size. More importantly the ridiculous pricing to compete with likes of Moto G and other chinease companies. And they blame customers for ignoring the device. They need to revisit the strategy first. 2013 strategy with little changes will help sony. But now the smartphone competition is very fierce, they can't win with this strategy. Hope they recover. I myself can't buy a phone due to their ridiculous strategy.

the problem with Sony is a lot of phones with no software updates, look at Motorola and the Moto G and Moto E, they sell very well and they received prompt software updates. They are not using all the alphabet to name a lot different phones causing confusion on the buyer.
