China Telecom confirms November launch for Samsung W20 5G foldable clamshell

Enrique, 31 October 2019

As the world set its eyes on the latest leaks of the foldable Moto razr, China Mobile teased on its Weibo account that a Samsung W20 foldable clamshell phone is on its way with 5G support. As per the teaser, the phone is set to arrive in November and would succeed the Samsung W2019 flip phone solely available in China.

The W20 5G was previously spotted at a Chinese Expo back in September, and the name was confirmed at that time with the same teaser image.

Samsung W20 5G foldable clamshell to launch this month

Samsung’s second phone with a foldable display is going to feature a clamshell form factor that opens to a tall display. We wonder if the same hardware that Samsung teased earlier this week has any relation to the company’s upcoming W20 5G.

The phone’s timeframe of November is interesting. Perhaps while Samsung was working on fixing the issues it had with the Samsung Galaxy Fold, it had also been working on the W20. It's unclear whether November will also see the start of the sales or only the announcement of the phone.

With Motorola reportedly holding its announcement of the new foldable Moto razr in November, perhaps Samsung wishes to unveil its W20 before it.

Whichever the case, we’re going to see at least two fully foldable clamshell phones in 2020. We wonder if any other OEMs would jump on the bandwagon, and if so, we also wonder whether Samsung would finally consider selling its W flip phones outside of China.

nah they been planed this, if u are trying folding tech why wouldnt they do this with their flip phones they provide, if anything Motorola making a comeback just because this while not even having razrs for sale like samsung still has been releasing ...

Hang on, is that would be the new W20 5G? While I am a total sucker for Android-running flip phone (thank you Samsung Galaxy Folder2), I'm definitely not sure about this. It feels like as if Samsung really is trying to fight Motorola.

The RARZ might be an icon, but current Motorola will sell to you a $1.500 with specs of a Moto G8. For that money it much prefer buy this one even if its more expensive or just buy a regular flagship
