Apple to use microLED in AR glasses and 2026's Apple Watch Ultra

Vlad, 07 October 2024

Given how it's canceled its order for microLED displays for the Apple Watch Ultra 3 earlier this year, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Apple was done with the technology, but a new rumor refutes that hypothesis.

According to a tipster on X, Apple is still very much invested in microLED, aiming to finally use it in an Apple Watch Ultra model launching in 2026 (one year earlier than rumored at one point back in February). But that's not all.

Apple is also reportedly going to use microLED panels for AR glasses which will be mass produced in 2026 as well. So if this pans out, 2026 is looking like a very microLEDy year for Apple indeed.

If this is true, it's unclear what LG will choose to do - whether it continues to demand compensation from Apple for the previously canceled project, or will just try to get the contract once again.
