Mac mini gets revamped design, M4 chips
The "week of Mac" announcements kicked off yesterday with the M4 iMac and we're now welcoming the new M4 Mac mini. It comes as a direct successor to last year's M2 Mac mini and is configurable with the brand-new Apple M4 Pro chip with up to 64GB unified memory.
The new Mac mini has a revamped "ultracompact design" that follows in the footsteps of the Mac Studio but with a much smaller footprint at just 12.7cm (5 inches) per side. It is a bit taller than the outgoing M2 Mac mini at 5cm, but it weighs just 670 grams for the M4 model and 730 grams for the M4 Pro version.
I/O includes 2x USB-C ports on the front alongside a headphone jack, while the back houses 3x Thunderbolt ports (Thunderbolt 4 on the M4 model, Thunderbolt 5 on the M4 Pro), 1x HDMI, 1x Gigabit Ethernet port (10Gb is an optional upgrade) and power-in. You also get Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.
The new Mac mini will be available with the previously announced M4 chip and a more capable M4 Pro.
M4 Pro comes in two configurations - a 12-core CPU and 16-core GPU on the base spec and a 14-core CPU and 20-core GPU on the higher-end trim, which is a $200 upgrade. The standard M4 chip offers 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores.
The new Mac mini is configurable with up to 64GB of unified memory and up to 8TB of storage for the higher-end M4 Pro trim. It ships with macOS Sequoia and supports Apple Intelligence.
The new Mac mini starts at $599 for the M4 version with 16GB memory and 256GB storage and is available for pre-order from Apple. There's 512GB storage version for $799 and a 24GB/512GB trim for $999.
The M4 Pro Mac mini starts at $1,399 and features 24GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage. Delivers are scheduled to begin on November 8.

Turns out Windows is the main factor in PC obsolescence. Windows NT 4.0 SP6 ran great on 32MB RAM. Windows XP ran like a rocket on 256MB RAM back when it was released. Windows 8 was awesome with 4GB RAM, also at release. Now Windows 11, with stacked ...

Mini PCs with no USB Type-A ports are ridiculous.
