Deals: Motorola Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra get their first discounts

Peter, 07 July 2024

Motorola’s new Razr 50 pair launches on Monday, July 8. This means they are technically still on pre-order, but they have already received their price cut. It’s just £40 off the Razr 50 Ultra and £20 for the vanilla Razr 50, but it’s a start.

Samsung will have its big Unpacked event on July 10 (Wednesday), starring the Galaxy Z Flip6 (and others). Last year, the Z Flip5 started at £1,050 for the 8/256GB model.

Amazon continues to clear out old OnePlus inventory, so old devices get massive discounts. And we do mean old, the OnePlus Nord 2 is from 2021. Still, with a Dimensity 1200 chipset and a 4,500mAh battery with fast 65W charging at a price of £160, this makes for an interesting alternative to cheaper mid-rangers.

Do keep in mind that the Nord 2 received Android 13 as its last update, so it’s already out of date. Not an issue if you plan to run custom ROMs, but we have a better pick at a slightly higher price.

The OnePlus Nord 2T is from 2022 and it did get Android 14. Unfortunately, that would be its last update, but security patches will keep rolling on next year too. This one is £30 more than the Nord 2.

The Xiaomi 12T is also from 2022. However, Xiaomi put it on a better update path and will receive a total of 3 OS updates (not just 2 like the Nord), so it is running Android 14 now and will get 15 as its final update. Security patches will last until late 2026. The 12T is pricier than the Nords, but runs the more recent Dimensity 8100 chipset and features a 108MP main camera, plus a larger, faster 5,000mAh battery with 120W charging.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 is a small, cheap tablet. Its 8.7” display has only 1,340 x 800px resolution, so it’s not the best for streaming, but the Helio G99 chipset can do light gaming. Interestingly, the 128GB version has 8GB of RAM, double what the 64GB model has. That might be worth the £40 upgrade, but the microSD slot means that you shouldn’t feel pressured to get the extra storage now.

If you have an ROG phone (or laptop), you may want to pair it with the Asus ROG Cetra true wireless buds. These are gaming buds, of course, so you can trigger a low-latency gaming mode with a tap or through Armoury Crate. These are solid all-purpose TWS buds too, with Active Noise Cancellation, IPX4 water resistance and up to 27 hours of total battery life. The case can be charged through USB-C or wirelessly.
