Two new Huawei Mate 40 teasers hint at fast wireless charging and 5G connectivity

Peter, 21 October 2020

The Mate 40 series will be officially unveiled tomorrow and Huawei is building up anticipation with a steady stream of teasers. The two latest clips focus on power and speed, specifically wireless charging power and 5G data transfers.

While a major leak painted an almost complete picture of the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and its siblings, these two areas still have question marks on them. We know that the Pro will support 65W wired charging, but there power rating of wireless charging is unknown. The Mate 30 Pro supports 27W wirelessly, though it’s capped at 40W wired, so we may see an increase.

The next video about fast data transfers. The Kirin 9000 will be the first 5nm chipset on the market with an integrated 5G modem. But which flavors? Current 5G Huaweis only feature sub-6 connectivity and not mmWave.

The company does have mmWave-enabled basebands, it’s a matter of whether it is worth including one on its phones (only a few markets have the faster 5G flavor and China is not yet among them, nor is most of Europe).

We’ll find out the exact configuration of the Huawei Mate 40, the 40 Pro and other models tomorrow. In the mean time, check out our What to expect post for a roundup of all the official and unofficial info about the phones.
