I just bought this phone today as an emergency back up to use every time my iphone dies (drained battery). The overall simplicity of this phone is very nice. While this is a monochromatic phone, it boots up quite fast hence my contact persons in my simcard are immediately available unlike in most of our smart phones nowadays. Nokia 1280's backlight is adequate enough even under direct sunlight, so reading sms under sunlight is not a pain at all. The font is still a classic - easy to read and the font size can be adjusted too (small or large fonts). It's keypad is well lit too & ergonomically designed and well-spaced apart. As for the sound, the earpiece (reciever) located in the upper front part of the phone is good. I can clearly hear what the caller on the other end is saying. There is no "sound leak" on my Nokia 1280 when I am just using the earpiece alone. When I used the loudspeaker (located on the upper portion on the backside of the phone), definitely it is loud and crystal clear too when the speaker volume is at its maximum level however the volume can be adjusted accordingly. The flashlight located on the topmost portion of my phone is less than adequate though. It is not bright but at least it will illuminate a distance of 1ft from you. Let's just say that this flashlight is a much better option than groping helplessly in the
dark.

Excellent phone. Has all the features you need - sms/phone/torch/calendar etc. Excellent battery life and easy to use keyboard. Would be nice to be able to use Whatsapp with it, but you can't have everything. For simplicity this is the phone. Thank goodness Nokia still makes this phone.

Best basic phone ever. Everything that you need, texting, calling, 3.5mm earphone jack (for those who enjoy long calls), games, flashlight on top, calculator, calendar, converter, reminders, timer, stopwatch, vibrations, etc. Not to mention long battery life. Great for those who are looking for basic simplicity, and for children as their first phone.

I think Nokia 103 Is Better than 1280 Bcz 1280 Have 8Hour Bettry life and 103 have 11 hour?? What do u think m i right?

sacrificial, 08 Dec 2012samsung e1200 or nokia 1280? which is better and why? I ne... moreNokia 1280, easier to write and read text but it has voice leakage. Samsung 1200 has small letter not easier for an old guy like me.
