the blank on the ringtone are for monotones. the last nokia phone i can think of that has a composer is the nokia 1208.. if you got a phone with composer then you can send tones to your nokia 1280. but the problem right now is finding new monotones/new songs translated to monotones

well.... some1 asked me why i was carrying a black and white outdated nokia mobile phone...i kindly asked him, 'what cn ur phone do?'....he said his phone had bluetooth frm wher he cud easily transfer data, music player to listen to music, camera to click photos, games to play when bored....and many other apps. i asked him how long ws his phone's battery life, he said if he used the apps it wud last half a day, without usin d apps it wud last at least 2 days....i replied dat my phone's battery last for 5 days without recharging. i told him dat his phone was prone to getting virus as he had bluetooth, wifi and internet facilities and his phone cud transmit more harmful radiation. i also told him dat my phone had radio and i cud listen to new songs anytime.i said while u r clickin pic and wasting time i wud be doin something productive...same goes with all of his apps.My phone doesnt have a protective case, its made of plastic, so whn ever it drops it does nt break. Other than my built in torch light, black and white game, my phone is simply used for talking. And i wont b trading my phone for any other phone..... ;)

Don't buy this phone. This is a worst one. If u use the torch lite for more then 3 hours continuously your battery will dead and also your display will get failed. Again you cant use your battery instead of u want to buy a new battery. I lost two mobiles with same problem. Don't use torch for more than an hour. pls don't buy this phone......

about the black area on the tone list. There a thing called monotone which is purchased via texting here in the philippines. Its a long forgotten thing about phones since cellphones evolved. Its a very old feature specially for nokia phones. Even i forgot how to actually get them now since those who sell monotones through texting might be gone by now. anyway theres a trick on phones with composer on how you can send tones. ill just search for someone with a 3310 and try the trick

i know this supposed to have 8.5 hours talk time but for me i spend around 20 minutes call everyday and the battery only lasts 1 day :S
i had it replaced for a new one (the battery and the unit itself) but the behavior is the same which makes me think this is really it.. does anybody else experience this?

I got this phone for a little more than 1 week and I must say, it's an excellent phone for those who only wants a basic mobile phone to send SMS and make and receive calls.
Battery is decent, in 1 charging (atleast in my experience) lasts about 4-5 day in moderate usage.
The flashlight is a useful feature, though you can't expect it to be powerful.
Creating text messages with this phone is a pleasant experience. The keypad is really easy to use and press. It also doesn't make nasty clicky sounds like other phones.
During calls, (for those who are concerned with the voice leakage issue of this phone) it does have that issue, though it's only really evident when the phone is in full volume during the call. In my experience the only time you actually need to do that is when you're in a noisy place. So that pretty much makes it impossible for others near you to eavesdrop on your conversation.
There are empty slots in the ringtone section of this phone, though it's not clear how you can actually put additional tone for it.
Fonts in this phone (esp. while composing messages and in the inbox) is quite big so it's definitely readable. Also, since it's a monochrome screen, you can use the phone and read messages under strong sunlight with out the need to over the screen.
Signal for this phone is quite good.
The 1280's body is well built and I can say that it can handle abuse quite well.
I haven't encountered the bug that other's have been talking about (the phonebook "s" entry problem), so I guess there are units with that problem?
If you're looking for a basic and reliable phone or a back up for your smart phone that always seems to ran out of juice after a couple of hours, I will definitely recommend the Nokia 1280.

I got a Nokia 1280 yesteray and I am facing some problems with it's contacts/contacts menu:
Sometimes when I press the Down Scroll button and try to scroll to the contacts which starts with S by typing S in search box, a "(no contacts)" message appears on screen, although I have saved many contact names which starts with an S
