By connecting the phone to my computer, I could paste cyrillic characters copied from a text. Not very practical, but that worked.

Good afternoon, I have remark or question to olve a problem I have incountered.
I have purchused this phone and found out that the clock is not working properly, after I synchronized the time with other wathes, it falls behind atleast 15 to 20 minutes. I had this phone change at my local cell store for another one, thinking that maybe this happened 1 in 1000 times. But for my surprice this phone also falls behind. I have not inform this to my local dealer yet.
I want to know, do have this same problem to??
Is it something that can be fixed???
Thank you for reading my message.

whats everyone moaning about screen size and pixels and mp3s and the like for? can anyone remember when a phone was made for phoning people? well thats what the 1600 does, and does very well, so get one of these instead of throwing money away on a phone that takes sub standard pictures and pretends to be a pc.

- Dropped my 1600

I accidentally dropped my Nokia 1600 from about 5 feet down to a rough concrete ground. It landed on its left corner topside, bounced and landed again on its bottom center. These two hit portions showed very shallow pencil-point dents. On closer inspection I also noticed tiny lines of cracks: one on each side and one on each top corner, including the left topside corner where a dent appeared (a total of 4 barely imperceptible cracks.) Other than these, the phone remained intact with no loosening of parts. Unlike my previous Nokias where battery covers and the batteries themselves separated on impact during a fall, the 1600 remained whole. All functions stayed as they should be. No squeaks, no mechanical noise. The parts remained tight and in perfect fit. For this reason alone I give the 1600 a perfect 100% in durability for its class. It is very well built!

The port at the bottom indeed allows a cable to be connected. The question, is whose cable? The answer, your service provider's cable. They use this to program the phone, lock it your service provider's network, update it, diagnose it, troubleshoot it, and configure the phone. In short, you, the subscriber is not supposed to tamper with it. This is for the service provider's use only. Of course, if you are savvy enough you can find a cable and software to digitally look inside your phone and reprogram it as you see fit.

There seems to be a port for a data cable on the bottom. I cannot find any information about a data cable anywhere, but there has to be one! Anyone got any info on this?

After 6 years an accident destroyed my cherished old and reliable Nokia 3210 which I held on to until then despite being ribbed by my friends to change it. Never one to be impressed with "popular features" (GPRS, in-camera phone, mp3, bluewhatever, WAP and WAPnot) I shopped for the simplest, most basic, Nokia and came up with Nokia 1110, 1110i, 1112 and 1600 alternative choices. I choose 1600 not because it came with a color screen but because the keyboard is noticeably more rugged than the 11xx-series.
Now I am impressed with the rugged build, elegant look (I chose black) light weight, and excellent battery life of my new 1600. And I believe the color screen is not too bad for my tastes either!
This is a worthy replacement for my 3210 and as usual it came with Nokia's ease of use and direct to the point functionality. For those who are looking only for a reliable, fucntional phone without the bells and whistles , I highly recommend the Nokia 1600.
Kodus Nokia for a fine product!
