hi viperkid.

yes 6131 has a lot going for it BUT..

seems that it CANNOT RECORD VIDEO (like 3250 can over 1 hour) even tho it has Hotswap microSD memory card slot supporting up to 2GB microSD memory cards (available as enhancements)

also seems there is d problem of WEAK BATTERY !! & average camera.

what say please?

            ssl2uv108:

i'd recommend 6131, it has a very good price and feature ratio! its like 3250 minus symbian OS, plus infrared, lower res cam, better screen! its approx 280 - USD320, as of this date. not to forget, it looks good! (at least for me..)

              Tamal:

              here r some of d main reasons y u should choose a smartphone particularly S60 3rd ed:

              1) its about 50-70% faster in performance than previous versions like S60 2nd Ed FP3 like N70

              2) symbian OS is d world's no. 1 smartphone software, meaning content developers whether for games/apps/themes, etc. will most likely create more for S60 than other platforms.

              3) better synchronization of data, calendar and email with improved security compared to previous S60 versions

              4) can function in the same way as a USB memory stick, thus enabling u to transfer large amount of data at a fraction of a time compared to other devices not supporting it

              5) future games/apps/themes for S60 3rd ed FP1 onwards (e.g. FP1, FP2, FP3 and future S60 release editions [perhaps S60 4th ed]) will b compatible with S60 3rd ed models like 3250, N80, N71, N93, N91, N73

              6) enhanced multimedia features with more supported formats like windows media audio, eAAC+, etc with preloaded flashLite player with d ability to use windows media player 10 onwards in ripping and transferring tracks

there r many types of SW for every individual, be it for gaming, email, browsing, photography, health, city guides, dictionaries, business productivity like acrobat reader, quickoffice enables u to view microsoft word, excel, ppt files wyl on d go. another type is a GPS mapping/tracking/navigation SW and alot more.

6270/6280 r not smartphones, u can't install applications/games made for S60 in it. here r some basic functions/features of symbian phones particularly 3rd ed:

              a) select and mark multiple items (like msgs, videos, msgs etc) at a time to delete, copy or move to another place/folder

              b) virtually an endless phonebook (free mem dependent) with comprehensive fields

              c) limitless message memory, plus an option to copy it in ur mem card. with d ability to set ur mem card as default storage in rcving files especially via BT for more flexibility

              d) run not only java but also symbian and flashLite applications

              e) richer and more intuitive personalization of UI, supports morphing/animated themes, obviously bcoz of flashLite

              f) run several apps at d same time with easy switching between open applications and copy-pasting of information between applications

              g) support for multiple emailboxes with an excellent multimode inet browser (wat u see on ur PC u'll see on ur S60 3rd ed device as is)

              h) ability to share games/apps/themes and other files (as long as it is not copyright protected) to other symbian phones thru BT, infra, etc without a PC or downloading OTA

              i) with RealOne player on ur device, ur network operator services such as live video/audio streaming etc will b more compatible than other phones dat does not have RealOne

              j) ability to search tracks by typing d first letters "ala phonebook" for fast and easy access in d music library

              k) create and edit videos genuinely, its far better than videoDJ found on SE phones

in d long run, as wat i mentioned earlier, as long as u hav a S60 3rd ed phone like 3250, rest is assured, future games/apps/themes and other content for S60 3rd Ed FP1, FP2, FP3 and new S60 release editions will b backwards compatible with 3250's version. with dat said, i think that's d genuine value of S60 3rd edition.

if u love and use lots of 3G services and d aforementioned features aren't really dat important to u, then 6280 might b d phone for ya, on d contrary, if u love music i'll recommend 3250!

re 3xxx, Nseries and 6xxx models, they r juz indexes used by nokia to identify which phones are targeted for what market, e.g. businessmen, youth, as u can see 6xxx models r more on d business stuff wyl 3xxx series r for d young/energetic and mass market, whilst 7xxx series are for fashionistas wyl Nseries is their top of d line especially for customers with high expectations on multimedia like N93 for camera wyl N91 for music etc.. no, i don't think 3xxx series are inferior quality products, if dat's true y 3250's loudspeaker is louder and clearer than 6680/6630/6230i? re pricing, its true dat 3xxx series is cheaper than 6xxx series, d reason, market target, no more no less! well those r juz my opinion.. =)

                  @viperkid

                  1) I installed themes from symbian.mobilethemes.com but now when i want to remove it from my phone i went to application manager and removed the theme but still the theme stays in the phone. After then i went to the file manager and directly deleted the theme but still the theme stays. So what should i do to completely uninstall the theme i installed previously??

2)i installed smartmovie for S60 3rd edition but when i converted through s60,s60 high res and through every option the videos after converting and storing in the phone,it does not work properly.the sound appears funny and the movie seems to be like a slideshow.how much do i keep the frequency and the bitrate and also what about the audio?
For codec i used DivX 6.0 codec.
Earlier i had a 6630 but the default settings for the application worked just fine.
                  plz help.thanx

                      hi viperkid,

thanks so much for the reply which has convinced me of 3250.

                      taking Tamal's question further..

i would also like to (since u used 6230i, 6630, k750 b4) ask u if there is any other nokia phone one should buy right now apart from 3250 (at price levels usd 350..)

nokia seems to keep missing ONE silly thing in every new phone they bring out!

Hi VIPERKID, u seem to be the perfect mobilefone-man, ur arguments sound too genuine also. my question is that y shud i go for a smartfone, especially S60, 3rd version. what sort of third party s/w installation will be beneficial as a user in my mobile. aren't 6270/6280 smartfones. and how will this 3rd version benefit users in the long run.
i've been following ur replies since long and more or less they have convinced me so far to get the 3250. WRT fantastic sound and almost decent pic quality i shud go for 3250, but wrt future techs like 3G, y shud i not prefer 6280 over 3250, in all what genuine value add will S60 3rd version give to me.
                            Thanx in advance.

                              peach:
3250 plays in stereo too on its loudspeaker eventhough it has only 1. re loudness 3250 is a bit louder. clarity, 6270 is a little better though 3250 has better bass element and overall balanced sound.. no we can't upgrade d firmware ourselves in our home PCs like SE phones, it will b available on S60 3rd ed FP1 models, perhaps N83..

                              SSJO:
yup, its correct flashlite compatible it can play .swf files!
